This sounds like a backhanded add. by someone that is not really familiar with RC. The referenced website appears to be legit, but who knows!

Does remote controlled mean they can be flown with a universal remote from Radio Shack?

NO. It doesn't mean that at all. Remote control simply means the device can be controlled hands off via a radio transmission.
