Not so sure about THE MOST rare....

Not overly common, yeah maybe, but they are around

http://www.vogelsang-aeroscale.com/fischerwildcat.html

An $4k will get you pretty much the whole kit, not just landing gear. 20 years ago there were very few off the shelf retracts that suited all applications so there used to be plenty of scratch build landing gears out there.

I love that quarter scale wildcat. I have always been a fan of that plane. Does anybody make a 1/5 scale? And what is the wingspan on a 1/5 scale wildcat?

77 ChickenHawk,

Jerry Bates has plans for a 1/5th scale if you want to build one. The wingspan is 91.25 inches.

I have just finished putting together a Fischer 1/4 scale one.

Dave,
I think i ended up paying around $6500 for mine that was just the kit and gear.

Wow the price has gone up a fair bit since I last check it...

Looks great! I have been watching your progress on your thread and was wondering if you had flown it yet? I know from your thread that you were not overly happy with the moki's after your P-47 loss.

Thanks

dave

The most rare rc model is the one that hasnt been built yet. I can think of Many airplanes that havent been modeled in rc much, if ever.

I believe CenturyJet has 1/5 scale retracts for the Wildcat around $700 with options for air or electric.

I flew mine for the first time a few weeks ago. With a little bit of practice, it flies wonderful!!! Mine wiggles a ton on takeoff but landing is easy i think! Does your big one have a tendancy to move around and try to osolate back and fourth on the ground? Thanks,
Ryan

In the room video plane looks so much smaller than a P 40. My 1/5 p-40 is only 86 inches I figured it would be shorter than that

Is it the most rare RC plane in the World? What proof do you have?
Starting multiple threads in several forums is against the rules and amounts to spam.

The reason its so rare is that its scratchbuilt tgere is only a few out there, and the retracts are handmade scratchbuilt from a guy in a basement. You cant just go buy one. It took two years just to build the retracts let alone the whole plane

Go on youtube and search up a big rc wildcat like not a foam one and see what comes up...not much, also try and buy one of these...you cant. You might be able to buy a jerry bates kit but this plane was a bob larson plane and there was only 5 built max and that was in 1980

The Bates kit seems to be bigger than fifth scale, more like quarter scale

Not sure how you could possibly know that information. The plans for both the airplane and the gear have been around for 30+ years and you think only 5 have ever been completed?

77chickenhawk & fun2fly,

The full-size plane has a length of 28FT 9Inches and a wingspan of 38Ft.

So 1/4 scale is 114 inches like what mine is, 1/5th is 91.25 inches so the Bates plans are right, and 1/5.5 is 82 inches so Ryan yours is close to that..

So a guy designs a model, builds it from his own plans and never offers the plans for sale. That's one of one. Would not a model like that be more rare than yours? There have been hundreds, if not thousands of one-offs built over the years.

just sayin'

Just to "pick a nit", 1/5 scale would be 91.2 inches which is exactly what the Bates plan is.

Not sure how that is relevant to my question but, to answer your question, maybe. I have seen half a dozen different Wildcats through the years and did not stop to find out where they all came from. At any rate it really is a meaningless argument and I am very glad that you are excited by your new acquisition. Whether it is the "most rare" or not is debateable but it is, without debate, a very nice model.
