Very nice thread. I grew up around crop dusters in Glendale az. I thought I would post a photo of one of the N3Ns my father converted for crop dusting using the front mounts and P&W from a BT 13. I have access to lots of photos of these planes and some day may take on one as a project. The colors were International orange, black and natural metal. We worked to maintain these constantly and that experience has always been a fond memory.

There hasn't been a lot of activity on this thread in a while but I figured I'd put my plane on it.
For a little over a year I've been scratch building a Grumman G164A Ag Cat from plans that I drew.
It is 1/6th scale with a 72" wingspan and 1250 sq/in of wing area (not counting the tips). I was hoping for 9.5# but it currently weighs about 12.5# but even at that weight the wing loading is 23 oz/sq ft and the cube loading is 7.8. I am powering it with an OS 95V and it has NO problems pulling it around. I have about 10 flights on it so far and it is proving to be a really good flying plane, it even has the characteristic Ag Cat flight attitude.
I have been posting the build on a scale site but if there is enough interest in it I will put a build thread up on here. Also I will be offering the plans through my company, www.rcbaron.com. I haven't decided yet whether I will be offering kits and parts or just plans.

I'm actually working on my Ag Cat currently....I started again a few days ago. I've been at this for a long time now I figure I better finish it up and fly it before I get too old! lol I will post a few pictures later today.

Hi, Ben
Your Agcat looks great ! I have been looking for planes to fly the Evolution radial engines, either the 7-77 or 7-35 how big is the diameter of the dummy engine you have ?
the 7-77 is 9,3" or 23 cm dia. The smaller is 7" something , so quite a bit smaller.
I hope you develop this into more than onley plans, laser cut parts helps a lot !

BT,
The dummy is 8", it is the Williams Brothers 1/6th Wasp with some modifications to make it look like an R1340. It is a bit undersized, the 1340 should be about 8.625" in 1/6 scale.
However the other engine option for the Ag Cat is the R985, which is 7.625" in 1/6 scale. Pretty close to the diameter of the Evolution 7-35. Also the 7-35 swings an almost scale prop. It weighs a lot but it is actually only about 10oz more than my engine, dummy radial, and ballast. I think the Ag Cat could be a good plane to put one of those engines on, it would be pretty awesome!

Hi,
That is a good size for the 7-35 then, I know they perform well in the GP Stearman with about the same wingspan, I have an old GP Fokker Dr 1 with a Evolution 7-35 and it has plenty of power for the plane. Se :

You can really hear the radial sound as I pull back power on short final.
It has been hard to find plane with no cowls, so you can enjoy the engine. This is a great one ! Please let me know when you have plans or parts , or updates, for the Ag Cat.

Looks good Gabe! Now post pics of the Dynam AgWagon!
Outacontrol - Great to see someone is still working on the AgCat!
I have been busy in my cars and drag racing most of the year. Broke 3 axles this year. So I have done very little with RC for the past several months.
I did get me one of those Dynam AgWagons and have been ever so tempted to start back on one of the other dusters.

Well guys I just took on a new project. I was going to order an acgat from Duane Habets for my evolution 99cc radial but seeing ass how he has a few projects ahead of mine I decided to take on a prototype he built instead. Its a 146" wingspan Airtractor 802A, designed for a turboprop. I intend to built it with the intent to some day compete with it so it will have the full detail treatment like my smaller airtractor and working dusting system. Hear are a few pictures. I have to get my topflite giant scale p-47 finished first then I will start working on it. this is going to be and huge plane. the smaller airtractor in the picture is my 92" wingspan model and you can see the p-47 wing (85") in the background to get an idea of how big it is.

That is mine. It is an 802-U, the military version of the 802, or Fire Boss. They basically took the payload capability of an 802 and added some pylon for missiles, and a bmob release. My plane is about 12 foot WS. It is built from DH's plans, and currently is a one of kind prototype. It has two electronically released bombs under neath, and the pylons have attachments for the missile rack or machine gun. The office is occupied by two 1/4 scale pilots, and it powered by a Kingtech 60 TP. Currently I am waiting on a 5 blade prop from Biella, and I need to finish the W&B. WIll be using the same CoG that DH calculated for the smaller version. It is painted with automotive paint. Most everything has been off the shelf, thus far. A few items like the landing gear were custom made. It is all built from balsa and ply with a foam core wing. The interior is glassed with CF in the front section for strength and heat control. Will let you know how it flies when the finsihing touches are complete.

It is real quiet here. Nobody does nothing with crop dusters any more?
A very nice project was brought to my attention earlier this week, a dutch rc cropduster modeler is creating this little sweety. Will keep you posted as it is not done yet.
