Page Gee Bee R-2
Anyone built Adrian Page's 1/5 R-2 kit? I have been thinking about this model since it first came out as plans in the Aug/ 01 RCM.
I just got a killer deal on a couple of kits from E-bay, so I guess I am going to do one now. Thinking about possibly changing it to an R-1, if I can a find a source for a glass cowl that won't weigh a ton.
I have done several Gee Bee's and had heard this is the best flying one out there.
I'll keep you updated.
Here are some pics of my NWHT R-2(#7), and my Fantastic Models electric R-1(#11):

RE: Page Gee Bee R-2
Been looking to buy a big Gee Bee, but no luck.....never see them for sale that has been built from a kit. I guess my option will be find a builder in the TX area.....buy a adrianpage kit or Hostetlers plans Gee bee.....any opinions on a kit built Gee Bee from people that has been flying them? Or possibly anybody that has theirs for sale?

Forget buying... build one. The kit from Adrian Page is a nice light build, and that's the key to having a good flying Gee Bee. Byron made a 1/4 version (which is now offered by Iron Bay Models) it is made of fiberglass and weighs in at 25 lbs. Page's plane should weigh in around 18 lbs with a G-26. That's a big difference in weight.

I've built the Newbee and am currently building the 1/5 Gee Bee Z. I'd recommend any Adrian Page kit. They build very nicely and very light. Adrian's customer support network is the best. If you have a question, just call the number and talk to the man himself. He's a great guy, and very knowledgeable. He'll talk you right through any rough spots and add a few suggestions. You can't get any better than that.

Hey Speed8:
Flew my 1/5 R2 this summer. There is a short video you can see on our club web site below. Of course it does the classic landing flip. I'm getting a little better at it though. But suggest you build the fin strong! I added some thin ply all the way up the fin and so far no damage.
Try this:

goto "Photos" and click the "Videos" link.
