Default primer for LustreKote Paint

I'm assembling a cowl for my Sig Spacewalker that consists of several plastic pieces. I've got everything glued up and have started to sand. After sanding I'm thinking of spraying everything with a couple coats of primer before final painting with LustreKote. The primer I'm planning to use is a PPG lacquer primer (DS-720). Am I approaching this correctly by using a Lacquer primer for use with LustreKote? I've read somewhere that LustreKote is a lacquer paint?

I have always used a regular automotive primer. You will want to make sure it is a white primer as a grey will darken up the Lustercoat. I would do a couple of tests on your scraps first to try and get the best color match and make sure that the combo you are wanting to use are compatable. Good Luck, Dave

I did try the Lustercoat Primer. It took forever to dry and did not sand to well after it did dry. I was not happy with the end result. Good Luck, Dave

I ended up buying the LustreKote primer and using it. I had a couple cans of automotive Lacquer primer left over from my hotrod that I thought about using. The LustreKote went on Ok.
