Default Pica 1/6 Cessna 182

I just got a 1/6 Pica 182 for free..... crashed of course but still free. It's not all that bad on the surface, it cartwheeled and messed up the cockpit from the bottom of the window sills up and broke the tail loose. I couldn't tell that the tail was messed up until I started to uncover it... The wing is in good shape but it does need to be stripped and recovered. The original builder used glass and automotive paint. He also installed corrugated plastic on the flaps that looks pretty bad.

Question-
I'm not sure it won't be easier to just buy a new kit and build from scratch rather than trying to salvage this one. I built one years ago and it was the best flying scale plane I've ever flown. I can buy the kit for $125.00. Anyway, I'm finishing 2 other planes right now and just planning ahead for the next project...

I don't have any pics of my first one... Like an idiot I sold it![&o] That's the only plane I regret having sold. I'll post some pics later tonight of this one so you know what i'm looking at work wise...

Here are the pics.... I didn't take any wing pics because it only needs to be stripped and re-covered.

That doesn't look too bad. I sure would repair it and fly the living daylights out of it. The re-covering will take a lot longer than the repair. I hope you have a set of plans for the damaged area.

I do have the plans and the instructions. The tail is just sitting there but is broken off pretty badly. My biggest concern is that some of the balsa seems to be very brittle. It sat uncovered in a storage build/work shop for about 3 years. The formers for the fuse top half should be easy to cut and install.

I'd still fix it. If you can get a kit for $125 that is a steal. I'd jump on it.

I'VE BUILT AND FLOWN THE PICA 182 KIT AS WELL.
FULL BLOWN SCALE, FULL PANEL LINES ,CORRUGATED SURFACES, LIGHTING SYSTEM, ETC.
IT FLEW VERY NICELY ON A O.S. 70 SURPASS.
EVEN MANAGED TO WIN A FEW SCALE CONTESTS WITH IT.

I'D FIX THE WRECKED ONE AND USE IT FOR A PRACTICE MODEL, AND THEN BUY THE OTHER KIT AND GO ALL-OUT SCALE.
KEEP BOTH AIRPLANES IN THE SAME WEIGHT / POWER RANGE AND YOU'LL HAVE A FAIRLY COMPETETIVE SCALE MODEL.

GOOD LUCK
BOB

That's the plan I'm going to follow. I've got one more project on the table right now but it's an ARF that I'm modifying a bit so it shouldn't take too long to finish. I'm planning on ordering the kit soon..... The guy has 7 at that price. Once I get mine I'll pass on the source, I'm hearing that people are paying $250.00 for these things![8D] I think that's crazy consideriing the fact that they aren't great kits. You could scratch build one with a set of plans.

Anyway, I'll fix this one and then build the next one like the first one I had. Flaps, landing lights, nav. lights, "rotating" beacon and strobes. It was a cool airplane to fly at dusk. I ran an OS .61SF on it. I miss that airplane.....

So now it's $150? The other day it was $100.00? Whatever, but you could do better than that on ebay from what I hear.
