tried 2 differnt props 18x6 and a 16x6, was turning up 6800 rpm with the 16 and 6200 with the 18
heres what happened yesterday 10 mph wind straight down runway, accel fine lifted off with no problems. climb was slow with both props, went to turn crosswind with about 75 feet of alt. and would stall. i beleave the wind was helping with the lift alot. just couldnt get any airspeed with the plane level

I have a flair DR1 some 7 years old , is 13lbs , i have an OLD Enya 120R with a 16-6 master airscrew prop , loads of power . I wonder when i see pics of some Dr1 's - not flair I might add-
but have a huge gas eng ; in them . If you want a gas eng , in the DR! suggest the G26 , super eng;

G26 is a side exhaust , I had it in a Proctor Nieuport 28 , & its now in a 1/4 sopwith triplane , Really is powerful . Was a good write up on it in a M.A.News a few months ago , also the prop best is an 18-6W APC , Tried it after a n 18-6 wood zinger , no comparision ,M.A.N. said [I think] should get 8,400 rpm , I get 7,900 & 15-1/2 lbs pull

hurri,
how is the landings on your flair? anything i need to be concerned with? or just the "normal" tendency to nose over?

Hi E/dancer-
NO problems , bet one in ten landings it noses over. I had the small one - now proctor i think ? It nosed over 9 out of 10 . The flair one they cheated & lengthed the nose a little bit , but only a real DR1 nut would notice . No its a nice flying model , Does great spins too !!! Good luck .

RE: suggestions for 1/4 DR1 tripe engine
well i bit the bullet and fuel proofed her over the weekend, installed super tiger 3000 inverted, installed 24 oz tank, just couldnt see spending 300.00 on a g-26 that may or may not fly her.
just got back from the flying field with her, i have a 20x6x10 prop on her, taxi tests were good. have to keep up elevator to plant the skid until you have rudder control. if you do this the ground track is quite straight, very little rudder input needed. when you let up on the elevator tail comes right up and its not long till its flying, good climb out. elevator very effective, rudder very effective, found my ailerons need more throw, flew her around a bit to get a feel for her, then to the horror of everyone at the field i started to wring her out loops good, a few hammer heads, then i decided to be a ***** and spin her, hollered out "OH MY GOD" everyone stopped in thier tracks and watched as it did the most awesome tight spin i think i have ever seen, when i pulled out i could hear the sigh of relief behind me. i then did a couple fly bys, then lined her up for a landing i kept 1/4 throttle on until over the end of the runway brought throttle back to just over idle and let her settle in tail up. started pulling back on the elevator and to my astonishment she started flying again, she fooled me, she will fly much slower then i realized. when she did settle back in, no wing drops, no nose over, just nice gentle landing.
i give the Flair tripe 5 stars
and i am one happy camper tonight. thanks for everyones input

Way to go eagledancer, looks great.
I've had my Flair Dr.1 about 3yrs. now, it has a Saito 180 on it and flies great.
Take offs at about 1/2 throttle and usually fly at about 1/3rd, but has some extra if you need it.
Like you said, spins great and flies smooth.
