Family, grandchildren and life has kept me distracted. Since I retired, I have never been so busy. Drawings are done but I am having problems dimensioning them. 1/2" steel plate has been used for jigs to replicate accurately each one to the drawings. The gear legs are now tapered. I just can't help trying to make things as perfect as I can. Even though the shop is 40 degrees, the plan is to weld up the final set today. I would like to begin installation in the ARF this week. Maybe one of the grandchildren can show me how to transfer some pictures from my cell phone so I can post them.
I apologize for the delay . I am also excited to try this gear out. Jim [email protected]

See if this will open. If it does, pics and control circuit soon. Nosewheel is large servoless from hobbyking or ebay. I will scan a drawing of how the nosegear is mounted. Nosewheel strut is made like robart but is shortened alot.
I am having trouble attaching acad dwg files. I would email the acad dwg to someone who could put them in a format that will work for this site.

Spencer, I use a spring loaded to off, single pole-double throw switch mounted next to a servo. The servo arm holds the switch for one direction or the other with the center being off. In series with the motor common is mounted an auto tail light bulb. When the motor stalls, which is what you want with the worm drive to lock the gear, the light begins to glow. This acts as a way to keep the motors from overheating. The servo is controlled by the 3 position toggle on the transmitter. you simply hold the toggle to up or down for about 10 seconds and then to the middle position when power is not needed for gear travel. I looked at expensive gear controllers that sense load to control travel. these were expensive. So far the control is working well. I hope that made sense. It's kind of hard to explain but is really simple.

Bart,
Originally my plan was to print the boxes at 8.5 x 11" then print the screen and save that as a pdf. You are free to do what ever you think is best. Hopefully some photos will be forthcoming. I finished welding the gear assemblies today. Tommorrow the plan is to hack saw out the aluminum u channel for worm gear brackets.. We need to come up with the title of each part. Gear leg, gear leg axle, gear leg wheel axle bracket, worm gear thrust bracket ??? I am anxious to see what improvements others recomend. I am open to all suggestions.

Excelent work!! I have a 337 project that could benefit from this. Improvement could be a bulding a gear controler that senses the load. Any electronics skilled person out there?
Thanks for sharing your hard work!

Sounds good. There are some gear controllers out there. They are expensive and would probably need to be prgramed to this applicaton.
It looks like we have only gained less than 6 oz. + battery and controller.

Here is some information on the dom tubing. If this tubing bends ,it could be tig welded and then heat treated to make it much stronger.

No turning back now !
Large holes have been cut in the ARF fueselage. The factory landing gear plate, 3/8 " plywood, has been removed and mounting blocks have been installed. It has become a real pain to install the gear as one piece. I am going to try installing the gear in two halfs. It should be much easier to install and remove. The mounting will have to be beefed up because the leverage will be twice as much on the gear plates. Pics soon.

I ran into a little problem with the gearmotor. The one I listed is a HP (high power) motor. This motor can strip its own gears when stalled. Ask me how Iknow. The medium power gearmotor works just fine and has enough power to work but does not have enough power to strip its own gears. Here is a list of the proper, specific components used.
polulo.com ; 2 ea. item 2371 298:1 metal gearmotor (medium power)
2ea. item 1089 gearmotor bracket
sdp-si.com; 2ea. A1M5-Y32 worm 32y
2 ea. A1T6-Y324010 wm.gr 32p
4ea. S99GMY-025030250 clip brg
Is any body watching? Is P210N still with us? Any suggestions are welcome. Jim

It looks like we will gain about 10 oz. Most of that will be a little aft of cg. The plan was to use a OS 91 FS or 110 FS. I am now considering electric. This should be a little lighter, plus the batteries could be installed forward of the dash where the fuel tank was. I am new to large electric. Are there any suggestions for an electric motor, ESC and batteries that would be reasonably priced?

I might have you make me some gear legs hobbyking has cheap large motors and escs. I have never had one fail although I typically run castle stuff in my e-helis. My lancair will be electric!

Hi Spencer, Could you send me an accurate drawing of your lancair fuselage in the gear area., This will need to show extended and retracted position of the landing gear. Also the pivot point and existing landing gear position and mounting plate. I will see if the same jig would work with a little adjustment.
Are there any suggestions for Hobbyking motor, esc, and batteries.

Hey Jim great work, like others I'm excited due to the application in a future O-2 build, was looking at the nose gear and was thinking that you could and a kicker plate that would rotate the gear 90 deg. for more clearance closer to the motor mount and cowl bowl. Again thanks for figuring it out and showing how it's done...Don

pals, you have no idea how passioned I am with Cessna 210 , I modified a Wendel hostellers Cesna 206 26% scale plans into a 210, I allready have molds of the fuselage , cowl, I´m working in the wings , it´s going to be a all composite 26% scale Cessna 210 , but the mayor goal is the scale retracts ,i´m new in this thread ,I wil post pics of my work soon
thanks to all you who are passioned as me

Way to go arsojo. I am anxious to see what you come up with regarding retracts. Let me know if there is anything I can assist you with. What is the diameter of your gear legs at the fuselage and at the wheel end? I may be able to come up with some of the materials to help you out. If you can share drawings or sketches of your landing gear that would help. Jim (motorhd)
