Gilmore "Red Lion"
I'm building the Hostetler plans 1/4 scale version of the Gilmore Red Lion (Wedell model#44), and was wondering if anyone had a photo of the cockpit?[sm=confused.gif]
Any other photos are also welcomE

RE: Gilmore "Red Lion"
Well I am sure it seems funny that I made it in blue. However there was a method to my madness. I figured that he might just print it out and use it as a pattern over some red covering. Now I have no way of knowing if he would print it out in color. However it is pretty well certain that it would be more difficult accurately cutting while viewing red on red ... hence the blue. Seems it is easy to critize when one doesn't stop to think ... wouldn't you agree???

Thanks for the info.... the cockpit of this plane appears to be very elusive
I'll keep trying the Wedell-williams Memorial Aviation Museum (Nobody answers the phone [:@]) They have a model 44 on display.

RE: Gilmore "Red Lion"
Nothing yet,
Working on a Super Decathlon with a Ryobi 33cc conversion currently..... should be done in a week or three
Then have to cover the goldberg Ultimate ... will be using a Saito 125 for that one...
Then it's time for the Red Lion...... I can't wait.... trying to gather the stuff already.... Looking at a Zenoah 62, or maybe a chainsaw conversion in the 55 - 70 cc range. I'll probably go with the zenoah for dependability as this is going to be my first attempt at a fairly accurate scale plane...
I'll post to this thread when I get started.... glad to see someone interested.

If you can find a copy of the book Wedell-Williams Air Service by Hirsch & Schultz it has an illustration of the instrument panel on page 109.
Also in my profile is a picture of #44 that is painted with the same paint as the one in the museum. It is the last of the Byrons and is powered with a G-62.

Here is a question.
The blisters on the cowl are for the valve rockers but I have seen photo's of the Red Lion with a smooth cowl (no blisters) My Byron kit gives you the blisters to glue on but which is it? Did the original Red Lion have blisters on the cowl??
Pete

On the “blue lion†artwork that is post above. That would be a great lion to use if you were going to build the Gilmore Detroit Lions Football team plane. I guess they are sort of the same they are both lions logos.

Check this site out,
there is a ton of good information there.
Lots on Wedell too.

I was wondering if you ever completed this plane? I took a bunch of pic for somebody awhile back.
I only live a few miles away.

cap21r,
I'm planning my build and would LOVE to have a set of walk around photo's of the #121 Red Lion including cockpit. The more detail the better.
Will send a PM.
