RE: Grumman Wildcat F4F-3 1/5 scale
I too wondered why a retractable tailwheel was offered as I have never come across any version of the Wildcat with one. I don't even think any of the one-off test aircraft were fitted with a retractable tailwheel!

ORIGINAL: rogerkIf there is a interest, i would consider molding a scale glass fuse assy. per jerrys plans.

Ed is right. There might be "complications" should you decide to offer these on your own. Why not contact Jerry directly with your suggestion to make these? The two of you may have something that could work to your mutual benefit.
I, for one, would like to see 'glass fuselages offered for some of his other designs, too. If you have the talent and resources you just may have a new direction in your life.

A quality fiberglass fuselage for the 1/5 Bate's Wildcat would be very nice. I don't know the demand but I would buy one at a reasonable price. To be considerate I would talk to Jerry about it. This could be a somewhat touchy subject, making a mold from some ones design and making a profit. Its a lot of work to make a quality product and you would deserve reward for your efforts. I want one for the 1/5 Bates Buffalo also.

RE: RE: <span class=
Well now I have the rudder attached at the hinges. Need to set up the elevator linkage then finish up with the rudder. I'm using 1/64 ply for the control surface skins. Tried to follow scale hinge method. A bit of fiddling around but it works. The Bate's plan calls for telescoping tube connecting left and right elevators to the central horn and hinge. Its made for disassembly but looks like it will bind. I am going to pin or glue the tubes together.

RE:Robart Landing Gear
For the guys that have them now.. How robust do the robarts look to you? After all the issues with the "infamous 615's" and seeing robostruts bend at my field... it's grass..... I'm curious as to how these look to hold up on landing after a season of flying.
600+ for the LG after 600 or more on the kit, acc's and finish, 300-600 for an engine and all the servos and time adds up real fast.
I really wish someone had a smaller scale cat.
off topic
Wing MFG has plans and some parts for a 58" ws Wildcat. Approx 1/8 scale (1/7.8 to be exact). I was thinking maybe the plans persicion cut kits or lazerlizard. They say 6-8 lbs a/c.
any thoughts? I REALLY want a cat in my hanger.
thanks

If you are interested I have Karlsson's 1/6 plans, cowl, canopy, cut ribs and formers. I am concentrating on the 1/5 and lost interest in the 1/6 scale. 14 pounds at 76" WS for 108 to 120.

RE: RE:Robart Landing Gear
I found a lightly used Multiplex Profi 4000 radio and picked it up. Should make operating the flaps easier. The receiver can handle three battery packs isolated from each other. I'm going to use a 5 cell for the servos and a 4 cell for the receiver. I just received the muffler from Kelvin and its beautiful. Starting to prep the tail for paint. Pictures to come.

Robart gear. We'll know how good it is soon. Just need to mount the cowl and access panel. Make the wings joint pretty, primer sand and fill till I'm blue in the face and red in the knukles. Paint, Canopy and decals. Getting excited about being nervious for the first flight ;^)
Dave, how is the Bearcat coming?

Nice work Carl - and everyone else that's building a Wildcat. Wanted to build one since the first time I saw it in M.A.N. over 20 years ago (Has it been that long?)
This larger size looks very exciting and should fly even better than the smaller versions.
Lookin' forward to seein' lots more photos and updates! Please keep'em coming!
GOOD LUCK!

RE: <span class=
You can thank Grumman for that. I think the Zero, SDB and Helldiver are normal and the Corsair is just like the P-40. The Buffalo isn't that bad. Don't know about the British Navy planes.
