P51 1/6 Retract suggestions wanted
Hi folks,
I'll soon be starting my 1/6 P51D for next years club scale comp. However, my plans don't give much of an idea on what slength retracts should be used, I'm guessing around 7 inches?
I'm also looking for a retractable tail wheel, I have one but it doesn't retract enough to allow doors to be fitted.
Finally, I'm looking for air-up-air-down retract units, but only seem to find the air-up-spring-down type, suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Chris

Robart makes a 1/6 scale Mustang retract with strut. I think it was designed for the Pica kit but I'm not sure of that. Anyway, they definitely have a retract unit that will work and the struts can be lengthened or shortened to get your required measurement. The only problem may be getting the retract unit into a scale wing, which Mustang are you working on?

Thanks for the reply, I'll take a look at their website. I don't think the wing will be a problem it's sport-scale so I'm guessing the wing is a bit thicker than true-scale.
I'm in the UK and the kit is produced by Galaxy Models, it was on offer and should give a quick'ish build with foam wings, tail feathers, front and rear deckings plus f/glass cowl.
I'm sure it's not true-scale, but I'll have a lot of fun with it!
Once I get started, I'll follow the build on my website.
Cheers,
Chris

you could consider either spring air or robart for this plane. i would stay away from the robarts with the plastic frames- they have a 530 and 550 series of retracts that might be a good possibility- but i'm not sure what the frames are made from.
spring air has an 800 series that has air up and down operation, and might be a good choice, as they are rated to 15 lbs. they are also set up to take oleo struts- robart makes pretty good oleos.
