Default GWS P51D Mustang

[:@]Hello, I was wondering if any body could give me any idea on how I could make the GWS Mustang Look a little more appealing. I would like to get rid of all the little injection marks, bumps and whatnot. If you have any Idea on painting foam like what kind of paint is foam safe and what kind will stick to the foam, please tell. I have tried many different tests and I cant seem to find a good result. Thanks.

Jon.

P.S. I found all these smileys and I had to use them.

I think you would get more responces on the electric parkflyers section.
I use Acrylic paints, Tamiyas, polly paints, etc found in your LHS.

I've had good results using Acrylic craft paint. To prep the surface, I lightly sand it to remove all of the injection and mold marks then fill all of the major indents (including the spar notch, etc.) with lightweight spackle. Once dry, I sand the spackle smooth. I then mix some lightweight spackle with water until its about the consistency of Elmer's white glue. I paint a light coat of this over the whole plane. This helps fill in between the cells of the foam. After another light sanding, it's ready for paint. I've done several GWS warbirds this way, and they've all finished off around 18 oz. flight ready with a 3 cell Li-Poly, GWS 400C motor, and 3 HS-55 servos.
Another note. I've built 2 Mustangs now and have found the fuse under the hatch to be very weak. I wouldn't hesistate to reinforce that section with a little carbon fiber of fiberglass.
Good luck.

WITH SMALL FOAMIES HAS ANYONE TRIED WRAPPING PAPER APPLIED BY THINNING
PVC WHITE WOOD GLUE THEN LIGHTLY APPLYING OVER THE AIRFRAME THEN COVERING
WITH THE WRAPPING PAPER TO SEAL THE FOAM I HAVE SEEN THIS METHOD USED
IN AUS ON LARGER MODELS BOTH FOAM AND BALSA WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS

Fieseler156,

Years ago we used talcum powder mixed with white glue on foam to fill the voids. This was heavy and messy.
I am building a Sureflite Howard Pete and will be trying water based polyurethane and tissue paper. I have been overcoating foam with this urethane to protect the decals, it should work well with tissue. I will post results if anyone is interested.

Chap
