Yak 52 - plans?
I recently met a guy who owns and operates his own Yak 52. He has suggested I should build a scale model of same. I`ll consider that.
I`m not thinking about F4C here - more like a decent sport scale model around 1/4 scale. I would consider installing retracts.
Can anyone advise whether there are any plans available for one of these? I don`t see any listed at either MAN or RCM.
Thanks,
Alan W

Alan,
The above site has plans for the Yak 52 available. Not a 1/4 scale but you might be able to scale up to suit your needs. Have used these plans to build a Yak 52 and Yak 50. I also had a short build thread on the Yak 50 going. Havn't added anything for a while.
Regards
Flapper

RE: Yak 52 - plans?
Hi Flapper,
Thanks for your information. Soon after my initial post I did a search on the 'Airborne' plans library and located that plan. I ordered same and would you believe it arrived in the mail here less than an hour ago. It looks like it will be a good place to start on this project.
My subject aircraft is hangared about 2 hours north of here and I have yet to crawl all over it with the camera. With a bit of luck I might even get a ride in it....
Thanks,
Alan W

RE: Yak 52 - plans?
Alan,
Your subject plane will provide good details for your model. I have included some pics below of my Yak 50 construction. Basicly the same as the '52 but moved cockpit, tail wheel location and main landing gear (fixed).
With the cowl, I sheeted it with 1.6mm balsa around the ply cowl rings and supports. It looks absolutely terrific even if I say so myself. I covered it with 2oz fibreglass and epoxy resin, made sure all wood was epoxied and then wet sanded to a glassy finish. Smooth as a baby's bum.
Whilst mine was built to the plan size, I think a 1/4 scale would be terrific. Do you intend changing the main fuselage structure to compensate for the weight? Had thought about putting in some type of ply or spruce/pine braces so I could eliminate the solid sides. You could easily cover with film or koverall and paint.
Anyway, would be keen to see how you will go with your 1/4 scale.

RE: Yak 52 - plans?
Hi Flapper,
My apologies for this slow reply. I have another couple of projects on the go right now and so this one is a way off yet. I generally build for lightness and so will probably go the built up from sticks and covered with Sig Koverall route and finished with Resene housepaint ex their wide range of small test pots. Also, I`m idly thinking a 30cc or 33cc Homelite conversion might be an option to consider too....? The big diameter cowling should handle it, but maybe the longish nose might cause a balance issue...?
I haven`t made that visit to the fullsize one yet so it really is early days.

Yak 52 1/4 scale plans
Hi,
While looking for Yak 52 plans i found this old thread.
I tried the link of airborne magazine, currently it has nothing to do with RC plans (unless i missed something).
I'll be happy to buy a set of Yak-52 plans, any size, i can play with the scale.
Thanks, Dror.
