Del you know what might be the ''goodest'' engine for this plane? the Moki 150!!!.. how cool would that sound!
Dave, I'll write you a note if you need it.

I'm using the DL 100 on mine. A twin is a good choice, less vibration and the cylinders will be mostly in the cowl. I chose a large twin so I could swing a larger more scale prop. A 28x10 will be my final flying prop(which will be close to actual diameter of the real one), and Zoar makes a fantastic WWI prop.
Just remember to fly the DR1 at a scale speed and not "balls to the wall" full throtle.

The first engine on my tripe was the Roto 70 twin, engine and muffler was about 6 3/4lbs.
I now have the GT80 twin on it and I beleave it's just over 7lbs.
I checked out the DLE 111, that's a very nice looking engine and good price for that size.
It's amazing that it's 41cc's more than the Roto and a pound less.
So, weight wise, even with the addition of a muffler you would be in good shape.
I may consider it myself, (I have another 1/3 Dr.1 on order).
Have you heard any reports on it's preformance.

no i haven't even checked the gas forum for threads yet.
figured i would ask first before going into it to deep.
so far though, the DLE engines are proving to be very good.

Del,
i'm thinking of using the DLE 111 for this model. weighs 5.5 lbs though, too much?

I thought you were planning to do the updated 1/4 scale kit, not the 1/3 scale. ???

then of course i made the mistake of reading thru Del's thread here.
with the cost of the DLE 111 being as low as it is, it makes spending more for the 1/3 scale easier.
of course the covering will eat me alive

And did you read that post summing up all the costs??? But you're right that both the DrI and the Pup were rather small aircraft and a 1/3 scale Pup or DrI can be as manageable to transport as a 1/4 scale DVII. I was shocked to discover that at 1/4 scale an EIII is almost 8 feel long!

with the 1/4 i would want to run a twin, not a single, and that alone offsets the cost a good amount.
i have but one concern, and i PM'ed Del about it.
other than that, if and when i do fly this plane, i will be cold handed if this happens to me,

Hi Mike, no the prototype is not retired, just in need of some repair.
On takeoff run at the Ohio DP it was drifting close the the taller
grass along the runway, pulled up too soon and ground looped.
Definatly repairable, just haven't got to it yet.
Good video, the engine has a nice throaty sound to it that I like.

Oh no, not the wheels thing again.........

haha....i don't think there is any thing that one can find fault with in this kit.

Nice work on the dummy engine, with neat details like the springs on the spark wires. How'd you do the factory label?

Wish I could take credit for this beauty. It's actually produced in Germany. Available through
http://vogelsang-aeroscale.com/
VERRY EXPENSIVE for a dummy, but the detail is amazing. The only thing they didn't do is the rocker arm springs.

Casting is of a resin and cloth. Very light but seems sturdy and Should hold up. Cant remember diameter but it is 1/3 scale and fits perfectly under the cowl.

this would look cool in the nose of this airplane.
since the engine i may use is a lb lighter than what i thought of using, this may be worth the cost..........thx

Very nice looking engine.
Also if there's not enough room for the whole engine or
you can't make it rotate, you can split it in half and have
enough for two planes. Makes it a lot cheaper per plane...........
