There are several of you that followed this thread that have either the short kit and or cowl and canopy. With the plans not being in cad cam it would be a long build plus cutting parts by hand is not the most accurate way to go for this airplane.
If discouraged with the project....
My question, is someone willing to sell the plans, cowl and canopy?. I have one year to complete and make it to Top Gun 2016

I also interested in copy of the plans from JohnnyO or the contact information of his family if someone can help me?, I only need the plans due that I have the canopy, cowl and retracts from the Byron T-28, if that will be not possible then I will enlarge the Dave Platt T-28 to 98in WS.
Thanks

Alex: My idea is the same, to enlarge Platts plans. But do not have cowl nor canopy. Have ad on rcuniverse to buy a kit or cowl and canopy.... No luck so far.

Looks like I have to finish my T-28 design and I think Mr. Ostmeyer used the same T-28 information due that came from the same person (HalH) and also with the retracts from Brazil and yesterday at Top Gun Robart confirmed me that they will fabricate T-28 retracts for the 1/5 scale, that gave us two options, you can check the prices at the Robart web page, the delivery time will be little bit more than the normal time but they will do it for us.

I have two sizes one is 1/5.5 (88" WS) and 1/5 (97.2" WS), the 88" is 80% complete, I also have the canopy mold and custom made retracts but it is possible to use the Robart retracts, now I have to finish one project that I am building (OV-10 Bronco), probably in two months I will have the plans ready and the short kit with the cowl too, and after that I will make the 97.2" WS.

Just go to the Robart web page and choose Gear Finder, Iron Bay(Byron Original), T-28 Trojan for $753.95 you can get these set for your 1/5 scale T-28, also they have electric option.

Did anything ever come of the 1/5 scale plans?

Or does anyone else know of other options for 1/5 scale plans?

One last effort: Willing to buy Johnny O's short kit. If you have given up on the project.

I have just acquired a pica t-28 that is almost completely built. It has never been flown and I'm in need of some parts. It is the biggest pica t-28 that was offered and the wing is roughly 80" and fuselage is roughly 62". I need a canopy, cockpit kit, and retracts with gear doors. This kit has been glassed and painted and is in great shape! I'll have to modify the cowl firewall to except a gasser engine in it. If anyone has any leads in where I can get these part s it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You might get with VQwarbirds.com, they carry the ESM line of planes, their T-28 was about the same size as the big Pica, they may be able to help with the canopy and cockpit.

Hello,

just now reading this thread after joining RCU. I am working on a PICA 80" that I built as a kid but had issues with the gear and engine so it sat for 28 years.

I am going to be scaling up the kit to a true 1/5th scale by using 3D profiling from a 1/32 scale plastic model, plans from Platt and Pica and my own rendering. I have CNC ,CAD, 3D printing, vacuum forming and resin infusion mold making capabilities. Just wondering if there is still enough interest in this model to pursue and market this here in the USA?

Any input is fancied..

Thx,

If you are going to design a T-28 base on the old designs like Pica your airplane will not be close of the real scale, if you want a real scale design like JohnnyO use information from the real airplane drawings, I built some Pica kits and they fly nice but are not close to the scale, after some years I am finally finishing my design and I will start cutting the parts in order to build one.

Good advice and thank you,

As I can clearly see that PICA was a "Stand WAY back off scale", I wont consider much from their old kits.

Joined a website that has many north american original drawings, between those and the plastic model I might have a chance..

Why not start with the giant scale plans by Dave Platt or Vance Mosher? They have done most of the hard work for you and you need only to enlarge to the desired size and, maybe, re-engineer some of the structure. No need to reinvent the wheel as they say.

Good advice from Chad.
I would look closely at the Platt plan he mentions. There are some issues with the Mosher plans that you would need to address. I asked the late Mr Mosher about them and his answer was not encouraging at all. I do admire his engineering.

I have the Autocad drawing that I did for my design, I used information that Hal H sent me and JonnyO also used, but I can't add it here, if you can send me your eMail I will send it to you, do you know what type of files I can attach?
