Best scale photo!

RE: Best scale photo!
Very nice photo of the Hellcat. Looks absolutely real.
I happened to arrive at that event as they were starting the static on that plane. Everybody could see it was extraordinary. The scale outline judge walked over after doing his part and said he wanted to know how the guy managed to 'take a real plane and shrink it down!' He said he couldn't find ANYTHING wrong on it. The craftsmanship judge said that only the hinge spacing was a little off, otherwise it was perfect. Since the photo documentation indicated that the hinges weren't perfect, he had to mark it down a little.
Got any other pix from that meet?

Hello fcf,
wow, what great scale shots! The left picture: honestly, you got that from old German reconnaissance archives, didn't you? That's not a model! That is classified material!
And the right picture: You had me going for a while! I really thought, if was looking at a a full size Mustang. Then I counted the stripes on the wing tips and - got you! One stripe too many! Those little things that give it away...

I too was very much fooled. I completely thought I was looking at a full-scale picture until I saw that the poster was from Arizona.
Then I remembered that it is only in Texas where everything is bigger...like people, lawn chairs, popup tents, vehicles and trailers.
Then I sadly realized, it in fact, was not a full-scale image, but only that of a model. The inflight shot is one of the best and most realistic I've seen in quite some time.
fcf, your last words in your post were "you judge". That may have been a mistake. In case you can't tell, these last two posts are done in sarcasm, as your photos couldn't be further from what this thread is all about.
My suggestion is that you be like Avis, and try harder next time. Might help to learn what this thread is all about.

RE: Best scale photo!
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to kindly set fcf straight on the expectations of photos in this thread. A snapshot of a scale model is not what we're looking for here. What we are looking for is an image that has some thought put into it and shows a scale model that appears to be the real thing, in a real environment. It's the over-all scale factor. Anything in the image should be representative of the scale of the aircraft. Natural grass is going to effect the image, as are full size runway stripes. People can be in the photo, but you'll have to play with some forced perspective. Go through the thread, there are a few photos by a modeler in Europe that did this with his Cessna 182. There are other threads for showing off your scale model, this isn't that thread.

RE: Best scale photo!
Sir,
My apology
I was at a RC Air Show and was taking photos for my personal scrap book. I wanted to take a shot of the Mustang low fly by like I did many other planes that day. For some reason I could not get a good clear shot of the Mustang as you see on the left. I just added the photo on the right to show the plane that I was attempting to photograph. I shown the photo of the fly by to a friend who also thought it was real. I decided to share it with others. My attentions was for viewers to look at the fly by, then look at the model it self. I do under stand what this thread is about and I did not mean to start any sarcasm. I was just trying to get a good clear shot but for some reason after several attempt of getting a clear shot with a digital camera this photo look like a full scale taken with a Polaroid.
Once again my apology. the photo of the fly by was not a attentional shot. it just came out that way.

Mikojan Mig-29 on short final GAF AFB Laage , Jagdgeschwader 73 [X(]
This shot is from the Composite ARF Fly-in in Kehl-Sundheim. As I said a kit from Composite ARF, two turbos, scale at its best, piloted by Marc Freohn, mebre of the worldchampionship jet-team Germany ...... fantastic ! .... and of of course fantastic expensiv here flies about 20.000 Euros

It may be a nice model but the photos don't do anything for me. And considering the usual "hard time" we give posters, I'm surprised no one has commented on the photo of a jet deploying a drag shoot on (deep) grass.

It should have been creatively cropped.

Believe it or not, the most fascinating and coolest faction of the hobby does not involve those twirly things on the front.
And I'm not talking about those fueled by batteries either.
I agree with the grass comment. Unfortunately, many of the european events don't seem to be happening on pavement.
Makes it kind of hard on those jet shooters.
Abu, have you ever been to a bonafide jet event? You have to see it...hear it....and smell it...to get it.

But...85% of it is that it isn't a WWI plane. And that's where your heart lies.

In terms of the criteria for this thread, however, even a dull composition is OK as long as it looks like a dully composed shot of the full-scale, which these generally do. I wasn't aware that an M-29 could land on grass. But then after spending 6-weeks in Kamchatka, nothing the Russians do would surprise me! Great people, but crazy pilots!
