Thanks Martin - I'm bias but yes I really do like the Kitchener area, been here about twenty years now.
If you're in the area next summer certainly look me up.

BTW you probably already know that Kitchener was once called Berlin and we still have a solid German population in the area amongst many others. I agree with you - the engineering of these WWI warbirds is fantastic in a simplistic and functional way, too bad it was war that was the impetus...

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Ken,
Thanks again - that's pretty cool, I think I'll print up a couple of postcards to post to my buddies for Christmas and one on the wall of my workshop!
I like to do a little of that artistic photo manipulation myself using Photoshop Elements graphics program. Your sepia tone looks better than the original grey tone.
Note though that both my photos as posted are untouched, just cropped.

Cheers,
Brian

Unionville Norseman 7'. She is posing with her newer air service cousins, DHC-6 (Twin Otters) used by the Province of Ontario for Natural Resources management, including forest fire fighting (the amphib is a water bomber)
This Norseman served the province in the 1940-50's and was replaced by the DHC-2 Beaver.
The Norseman is powered with an SV 17cc (underpowered), soon to be a Zenoah G20. Someday I hope to put it on floats!

Hi Neil,

While those Corsair pics are fine examples of your prowess with a camera, I think your pics of that Sopwith Camel you posted on that ( other ) thread are more in keeping with the essence and spirit of this thread.
I think these photos ( taken by Neil Hutch ) would and can fool just about all but the most discriminate / educated aviation aficionado.

In other words, one's first thought when viewing these should be,...."is it real ....or a model ?"
And then ...."wow - look at that very nice Sopwith"

Neil, it's a very well executed model and , as always, excellent camera work. I like the close crop and lack of backround that usually gives away the illusion.

So, more photos like these please...
Ken.

Very nice photo. Really gives the impression of size being able to see the building in the background UNDERNEATH the model!

The thing I noticed was no panel lines or inference of them anywhere on the model....I expected to see something on the tail surface area. too smooth of a finish for a military aircraft. IMHO
other than that, it looks fantastic

Very nice B-17 shot!
100% inline with the thread concept.
Sure it's a simple model but we're judging the shot/composition/background/forground/camera hight/ etc.
Does it feel real? IMO, yes... it's great.
Well done RCphotog.

Hi All,

I'm not usually very good with adding a sepia colouring to a black & white picture, but I'm quite pleased with this effort.

Oh my goodness!
Help! Help! Run! Run!
Someone help! Stop that airplane... It's running off without a pilot!

And with those rotary engines without a throttle its running at full speed, no wheel blocks, nothing to restrain it.. Oh desaster is about to happen.

Beautiful picture, though!

I have to admit that Ian's DH2 is one of my favorite models. He's a true artist...as one might expect of a guy whose day job is designing and sculpting puppets! And that's a really good photograph of it. By the way, I've found that using the channel mixer in Photoshop is the best way to reproduce the look of the orthochromatic ("blue sensitive") films using in WWI, which tended to lighten blues and darken reds and yellows. So the blue in a roundel would typically be lighter than the red. Ditto on the rudder colors.

Thanks for sharing my photo. Unfortunately the sun was in front of me, so a lot of the photos I took that day weren't keepers.

Very nicely done, Ken. There's a real wartime picture that looks similar to your shot - have you seen it?

Ken, I'm afraid that one screams photoshop to me. The cut 'n paste aircraft in the background (apparently doing low-altitude aerobatics guaranteed to piss of the CO) to me distract from the overall realism. Also this shot of the foreground B-17 loses the realist of your last photo because it's taking from above.

Thanks. This image was done just for the owner's collection but I thought (maybe) it might inspire others.

.....and no, I have not seen the ( wartime ) image of which you speak.

Hi Don,
Yeah I know
Like I said, it's just for fun
In my mind ( hopped-up on Mt. Dew at three a.m. ) the photographer was standing on top of the fuel truck or a VERY tall ladder
I took over a hundred shots of the two models that day and I do have more from the lower angle to play with. After midnight ( when the creative juices are flowing ) anything can happen in my "photo-shop"
Thanks, as always, for the input.
Ken.
It's fun fun fun
