Yes it IS a great model
It's what is known as 'designer scale' - Ron Peterka, of So Cal, found the real plane at an airport in San Diego County, Ca. and took many pictures and measurements over several visits. He then drew up his own building plans. A complete build article is scheduled for release in a popular r/c magazine this summer.
STINSON SR-5E
specs:
scale - 1:5
wingspan - 98"
engine - Zenoah G26
~completely scratch built ~ and scores 98 static or higher in the U.S.Scale Masters program. Ron is one of a few scale-scratch-builders left in Southern California.
I drool over models this precise and exact
Ken.

Hi All,

I don't do many helicopter shots so here's a couple. Believe it or not the huge thunderstorm clouds just missed us - the downpour could be seen only a few miles away!

Those clouds are so fantastic that it's almost easy to overlook the model!

A very realistic model. The give away for me is the pilot.

Agreed, nice model but the giveaways are the tailwheel, pilot and upper aileron links. Nice photo rework too, quite convincing

The first photo with the model flying away over the real deal is PERFECT! Outstanding photography, Neil!

But yeah a bit more weathering is needed on this model. Not much, but a bit. And, how can someone go to all the extreme the effort needed to build a scale model like this and then just paint on squares for windows? [X(]

Hi Guys,

Believe or not the Vulcan close up is quite dirty. The bright sun probably makes it look cleaner than it is. Gotta agree about the windows bit. I would love to see a proper cockpit. However, from a distance it doesn't look to bad. I think after all the time it took to build I think Dave probably just wanted to fly it! I have to say the Vulcan has a real presences about it the air and the sound is superb![8D]

A bit of photoshoppery to give the runway a bit more of a realistic size to it in relation to the Vulcan.

By the by, the "Vulcans" that sat nuclear alert during the cold war were quit pristine, so the subject of the photos appear very accurate...

I know, you're right, as this photo shows. But still...I don't know...it just seems like it needs something in the realism department. By the way, I don't envy the poor sods who had to wash and wax all that real estate!

Vulcans used to fly regularly over my childhood home in the UK, landing/ taking off from a RAF base a couple of miles away. We used to stand in awe, watching them. They had two very distinctive attributes and no, it wan't the wings. One was ear splitting, vomit inducing noise and the other, increadly dirty, polution belching engines. The ammount of black crud blown out of the engines was quite Satanic! Capture that and its a keeper.

Now that pic. of the Vulcan climbing out and the one in the foreground along with the mountain range in the background is the most interesting picture posted in quite awhile. It's a very interesting photo... Well done.
