philly... I agree, let Mustang51 decide what to do. I was just offering some ideas and suggestions.

And I have more ideas... This is a perfect time to this voting/contest thing, with or without RCU's involvement. I say this because we just recently broke 500 posts, which is a nice round number. Mustang51's first post was on Jan 26, 2003. Post No. 500 was on Nov 25, 2003 (by none other than our one-man cheering squad, iflynething). It took us EXACTLY ten months to reach this milestone. Maybe we can vote for the best photos every 500 posts.

Or maybe it should be a yearly thing. We all have one more month to go through all the pictures submitted in 2003. We can vote near the end of December. And on Jan 1, 2004, Mustang51 can start a whole new thread called "Best Scale Photo 2004" or something like that.

I like the second idea better.

I sure do appreciate the help of everyone. As I remember it... the "OLD" RCU was unwilling to do anything when I possed this issuue some months ago, but I have made an additional attempt to try again(this includes a prize for the winning entry). I can not edit the original post as it is the "OLD" RCU and can't access it. I can not get into edit.
I like JUCISES idea about 2003...2004..etc.
I have compiled a list of 14 photos that in my oppinion, are just outstanding. I went through the whole thread with a list of criteria that photos should meet.
I think what we'll do is wait till the end of the year and judge those photos submitted as well. I would like to narrow the list to 10, no more then 15(photos). Sometime in the first two weeks of 2004, I'll put together a list of those photos and start a poll.

Please remember... the photos will be judged on their "SCALE AUTHENTICITY".
This means things like angle, composition, Scale effect, Scale of model, as well as detail of the model.
There are some absolutely FANTASTIC shots in this thread. But there are pictures that you can just tell are of a a model. Believe it or not, narrowing the list to 14 was pretty easy when you set a particular(but not unobtainable) set of requirements(which have been outlined time and time again)(The only thing overlooked is the "scale of the grass"which can not be helped).
There were some shots of airplanes that were simply eliminated because a spark plug boot was visible or an "out of scale" "something" was visible in the picture. It took these types of criteria just to narrow the field to the present 14. I have plans of going through those in order to cut the list even more.
There are shots of models that have incredible detail, but because they were taken so "up close" you lose the "depth of field" and they look like nothing more then "detail" shots.
Remember, this is everything about making a model look REAL, not showing off the amount of detail(like you were sending the picture of the detail of the model to a perspective buyer).

I like the idea of a "best of the year" photo contest.
Maybe more scale modelers will focus a little more on the photography end.
I see so many shots on the net of just awesome specimens shot in the front yard or driveway, or living room coffee table.
Maybe this will spark some imagination...or at least motivation.

I use a little ol' Nikon D-100. This particular shot was taken at focal length of 190mm on my Sigma 135-400mm. Shutter speed was a little fast at 1/640th f/7.1.

I love those shots taken at San Jose. The angle of the distant hills makes it appear that we are the wingman looking down at the plane. And the color of the dry grass seems to compliment every subject I've seen against it.

So have you flown at the SCCMAS before? Yes, the hills make for a nice backdrop most of the time, and they change with the season so there's a little bit of variability, but sometimes I wish there was more to shoot against.

It shows a Bahrain Aiforce F16 for which Mike Grant offers 1/72 scale decals. The pictures are originally taken by Ivan Brocot. I guess it is a full size one.
