Tom, race car drivers, aerobatic pilots and other folks find a sponsor to help with the costs of their activity. Your name is so well known that attaching it to any appropiate hobby item would or should benifit the sponsor. I suggest you call the folks at the Joe Nall group in South Carolina. This man is rich, loves airplanes of all sizes and has high integrity. Only get involved with someone who is an accomplished business man. You have the skills, the reputation and the drive to pull something like this off very easily. Norm

Seriously though, I am looking forward to your being able to finish up the DVIII. Sure does seem like you should be able to get some sponsorship/endorsement deals out of your DVIII build.

Yes of course we all wish for Santa to come down the chimney. But really I don't expect someone to just fund a project which has no benefits to them. Unless the person wishes to purchase the model and would advance some payment for it to be finished then that might happen. I most likely will put it aside to build something to have fun with.
Thanks for your response.

I think with a nice dummy engine, the plane would look great as a display in a museum. I like it uncovered for that. Send some pictures to the curators; you never know.

Sponsorship = Advertising. So, for example, I think you should be able to work a deal with AZM that they supply you with a set of 1/2 scale gun kits FOR FREE in exchange for some good publicity, which they badly need. And maybe ZDZ would be interested in cutting a deal on the engine, knowing that it would be great advertising for them. You could even arrange to set up a display of their other products at meets that you attend.

Gentlemen
My ZDZ 160 is up for sale. It comes with two exhaust cans, advanced ignition, and a 31 inch prop. All new never run in the box. 1100.00 The DA 150's are 1400.00 without exhaust and the 170's are 1600.00 without exhaust so this is a great deal for this engine. Please contact me if interested.
I will be replacing it with a Limbach 275 cc twin. swinging a 38-10 This will give me the power I will need to safely fly the E.V.

Hi friends of Tom and lovers of giant scale RC aircraft. Check out www.acmp.com/blog for two articles that came out this morning regarding your leader Tom Kosewski. Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed writing about my good friend Tom who I have known for many years. Norm

Good stuff Norm. I hope Tom can find a way to complete his DVIII project.

I had thought the large pusher model with the working rotary engine was one of the deHaviland series too, but my research turned up that is was a Vickers FB5 GunBus built by Ray Williams. Ray built the engine too.

Hi , thanks for the info on the Vickets, I had doubts when I wrote it that I had the wrong airplane, when I have the choice of two I always pick the wrong one it seems, glad you liked the columns. I have been doing these for over two years, every week. The site they are on has a sub list of thousands of full scale airplane folks. Norm

I have a couple of videos from the 2010 Jamboree and several from the 2009.

Here is Ray Williams' Vickers FB5 GunBus engine run-up - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru5Ufu7x-DM

The 1/2 scale Fokker DVI that flew Saturday evening - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toRSeuM-GmA

And some of the flight line on Saturday morning - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GIC-V8i2Ec (It starts with the same footage as the DVI video, but keeps going)

I've had my pilot's licence for six years now and rent out of the Augusta, Maine airport. During the summer I visit the Owls Head Transportation Museum that has a collection of WWI aircraft that they fly. One of my favorite mid-winter trips is down to the Fantasy of Flight Museum in Polk City where I fly with Rob Lock in his PT-17 and New Standard D-25.

I love the old planes and I'm currently working on a tailwheel endorsement.

Thank you so much for including me in your article. Your kind words are very much appreciated. But really now I am not the leader. Only one amongst many who are very talented and knowledgeable scale builders. It is an honer to be amongst them yes, As you all know it takes years of work and research to become a good builder. I wish there were more people out there who would take on big projects that take years to build.
I enjoyed reading your article, very well done, you still got it.

Thanks to you I have taken down my 1/3 scale D-VIII and I am going to finish it. It is almost ready to fly except for conversion to electric and final paint. Norm

Thanks for the links, Kermit's digs are rather nice and love his collection of early aircraft. Tail wheel endorsement is something worthwhile, can you tie it in with your Flight Review, might save a few bucks that way. I much prefer to fly tail draggers with logs full of Texan and SNJ time, Cessna195, various PT times and Maule times. Of course my special J-3 logs are overflowing, Norm

I seem to take on small projects that nevertheless also take years to build!

Thanks for posting those cool video's Rhinebeck sure is a lot of fun.
I will be heading down to Fla to attend Monster Planes with the GTM team. Any of you people attending? I am not bringing any models with me for I am flying down. But I will get to fly some of the guys planes who I will be with. Really looking forward to seeing Frank Tiano's new set up with his newly built runway of grass! When I return I will post pictures of the event. And I plan to get back on constructing the Fokker E.V.

You may already have seen the photo updates on Achim's D8, but if not have a look. It's mind-blowing stuff.

Hi Abu
I actually go on Achim's site pretty much everyday. He is a wonderful builder, and I most certainly have learned a lot from him.
Yes the D-8 he has built is FANTASTIC.I am looking forward to seeing it fly some day. Did you notice how much his wing stains have faded? Too bad the color is disappearing so much. But he thinks the real ones did the same. I keep my wing in it's box during storage to help keep this from happening. I also used a UV varnish. I like the colors, would hate to see them fade away.

Back from Monster Planes in Fla. Had an absolute blast. The weather was perfect, 80-85 degrees not windy. I believe only two or three planes lost. Lots of cool stuff to watch fly. I myself got to fly 4 different WW-1 types. Had super flights, and happy landings for 6 flights. Thanks to all my great friends in the GTM group for a very pleasurable time. On Thursday we ran up Glenn's new unflown D-7 prototype with a Quadra 100 in it. After 5 minutes of running the crank shaft broke. So we as a team retro fitted a Desert Aircraft 85 out of Big Paul W's GTM Fokker Dr.1 and installed it by Friday evening. With minutes to spare we got in the flight at 5:30 pm. Jack Ferroldi did the honors and flew Glenn's plane. It was a perfect flight. We logged on two more the next day. Paul flew his 1/2 scale D-6 expertly for three flights. Doug peirce also did excellent with his GTM D-7 and his German kitted 1/3 Stampe. He won two trophy's as did Rich and Jack F. Lots of Gold in the GTM camp. Frank Tiano Thanks for a great event!!

Hi Tom.

It was a pleasure meeting you at Monster planes. I had the big Spacewalker. I got a real bang out of watching you and the gang do an "in field" engine swap. That GTM bunch is a really dedicated group of guys. I really wish you could have had your plane there...two 1/2 scales in the air would have been something to see.

I am one day away from getting home (8 days on the road!) I hope you can make it again next year...we would all love to see your masterpiece.

Cheers,
Dave.

Hi Dave
Yes it was a lot of fun at Monster. Hate to see the last day arrive when your there. I enjoyed getting to meet you. Like you said it's nice to put a face to the conversations on line. Your Spacewalker is a beautiful airplane. You fly it very realistically. I sure do hope to make the trip next year, we'll see.
Happy Landings.

Hello People.
I'm back at it, First I want to finish up the cockpit. Here you can see I made the safety harness. I still need to stitch it to the pipe behind the seat. Next I will make the seat pad then the fabric baffle behind the seat. I did order my Pilot from AH pilots. Looking forward to putting him in his new plane!

Inspiring work as always. If I were that dummy pilot, I'd feel damned proud to be sitting in that seat!
