Need Plane for 1.60 Twin Engine (No Cubs Please)
I usually pick a scale airplane that catches my fancy and then shop for the approptiate engine. This time I'm doing it the other way around. I picked up a new Magnum 1.60 twin engine for too good a price to pass up and now I'm looking for a scale project to put around it. I know that a cub is going to be an obvious answer, but I alread have 2 cubs and don't won't to build another. I'm looking for kits (no ARFs). I like biplanes, but would consider anything scale if it flies well. If you know a kit that would mate well with this engine give me your recommendation. THANKS!

Pick anything that is rated for a 120 single and go for it. The last thing that I put a 160 twin in was a hybrid CAP 232 that is out in my gallery pictures.
I can't speak to the Magnum but the OS 160s and 120s are good reliable performers. I still have 3 in my collection and have been flying them since the early 90s.
My primary focus has been on giant scale for the last several years so they haven't seen much service lately.

BUSA 1/4 Pup or the like, or a Pitts. I am needing the OS or magnum for a1/4 Camel and I keep flip flopping on buying one of the engines but I am going to have to jump on one soon. If you want it seen something, like a Spacewalker, Heath Bullet, Fly Baby.

Just a couple of tips, Martin, for your Magnum 160, they may save you some grief.
Check the 'O' ring between the carb & manifold, mine was too small in section & leaking air.
Also check the needle valve, mine was a loose fit in the housing & would rock around upsetting
the mixture. I replaced mine with an OS unit which has no play at all.
These mods made it a much more consistant runner.
Mine was also bought for a price too good to refuse but it came fitted to a PT 19 & looks a bit
silly sticking out of the cowl. - John.

Looking at my Top Flite Stinson I notice the OS 160 twin is recommended and even drawn on the plan. The OS fits completely within the cowl.

What ever plane you decide on make sure you can place you fuel tank at the correct level as the carb is underneath by a good bit. I tried to fit it in a Dave Platt Zero but it just was not a good fit.

The Stinson is another idea. How did this kit build? How does it fly? What engine do you have in yours?
Thanks!

In addition, the building manual is available on the Top Flite site in PDF format and even includes the plans on the last 3 pages:[link]http://manuals.hobbico.com/top/topa0310-manual.pdf[/link]
Enjoy!
