RE: Fokker DV
Yep, now your talking! Would be really cool if you could gear the four stroke but that would take a lot of thought and it makes my head hurt [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

I am back to working on my D.V. I will be using a Rimfire motor and lithium battery...wish I had the specs at hand, but I have figured it should do the trick. I don't want vertical performance anyway. The original was very underpowered, so if I just putter around the sky at 1/2 throttle, I'm happy. Here's a shot of the top wing.

Unfortunatly I will not be a ODP
My wife has a family gathering that weekend that I cannot avoid (but boy would I like to!)
I will, however, be attending HDP and Dayton. I hope to see you there Jan...just walk up to the biggest guy you see there and punch him on the shoulder to say HI!

Stachel,
I would like to challenge you to who will be the first to finish their 1/8 scale D5!!! I too, have returned to build on it again, and I'm make some good headway. Any good pointers that I learned/discovered, I'll pass along, and I hope you do the same.
Right now I'm worried about tail heavyness and so I moved the top wing back about 3/8". Another thing I'm doing is to have a suspension in the undercarrage. Thirdly, the opening of the engine cowl is too large, it should be 3", so I added more balsa and turned in down in the lathe.
Also, I made a seperate bellcrank arrangement for the pull-pull leadouts to the rudder & elevator. This takes the tension off the servo.

Hey P'nut,
What better motivation to get-R done than competing against each other? I'll be burning the midnight oil every night from now on!
Hey, I'll see you at the HDP next month.

Hi Jan,
Your D.V looks marvelous! You are ahead of me in that you have yours on its wheels. Your landing gear looks great, too. That was going to be my next step, bend the cabanes and LG struts. I'm going to be the one to find out if Kay's location for the cabanes works ok! I think you are correct about the cowl aperture, the only concern I would have is adequate battery/motor cooling. The originals had problems with cooling because of the spinner, too. Have you looked into the spinner question? There is a great technique that Bert Ayers shows in the AerodromeRC newsletter.
Model on!

RE: Fokker DV
Okay, here is the latest.
I'm mounting one (with an option of two depending on how it balances out) 1300mAh battery inside the cowl, and so the cowl attachment means needs to be beef'd up with 3/32 plywood. The firewall supplied in the kit is not that good, so glue on some good birtch plywood.
I also applied the use of "Edi's" motor mount as he describes on the website http://www.aerodromerc.com/cgi-bin/y...num=1195621726
I made mine adjustable and lock it down when its center in the cowl, by two screws. Works really good. Now I have 3-degrees of freedom that is adjustable and then locked down with 2 screws.
I didn't use the stringer method for the cowling on the top-front fuselage, I covered it with 1/32 plywood. The originals were NEVER covered with fabric there, so I'm baffled as to why the designer would do that???
Strengthen up formers F4 & F5, they are very weak. I glued on some balsa strips.
I'm using the William's Bros vintage wheels, 1/8 scale (3.75" dia)
I'm working on the tail boom now and attaching it, since I'm basically done with the fuselage. Next will be redesigning the whole elevator & rudder design. Its all wrong!
The paint finish will be the Fokker streaking. The undercarriage needs a spreader bar assembly too, so I need to think about how to do that.

RE: Fokker DV
The fuselage is almost done. The elevator is next, then finishing off the wings. When all that work is done, and I'm satisfied I'm finished building, I'll do the covering & colors & markings. The tail skid is shock absorbing as are the wheels.

RE: Fokker DV
I got the elevator done now. I'll get the leadouts connected to the control surfaces next week.
(Very time consuming work for just a 1/8 scale model. For the same amount of time, I could be building a 1/4 scale, I think)

That is impressive Jan, I look forward to more pictures.

Mike, I forgot to get that Fokker tee-shirt from you! We'll touch base on that next month at Muncie. That pyramid structure in the tail is soldered brass tubing (3/32") and it's ends are flattened and screwed into the plywood gussets. I got the idea from my 1/5 scale Fok D5, as well as the tail skid.
So, more picture, huh? Okay, here's how I performed the plug-in bottom wings. I want to remove the wings for storage, and so I have to develop the means to make them removeable. The top wing is in one piece and its almost built.
