Thanks Mitch, I met you at Top Gun last year, you were flying a Waco for one of your buddies.
I am definitely enjoying this build and plan on using this plane as an every day flyer.
The wing loading is light and it looks like it flies very well.
Have you installed an electric fuel pump, Turbulator etc. on your Moki yet. I know about the baffles. Just wondering what you found to help the engine to perform.

Thanks again Mitch..............Ron

Wingstrut,
I have been very specific with AMR about what I am missing , even telephoned and discussed it with them. I was assured that it was personally packaged and the parts are there. All I know is that I do not have them , and I am still waiting. Not very happy. I had planned getting this aircraft to the guy that is painting it by the end of February, that is not gonna happen. I don't want to start bashing anybody, I would just like to get on with my project.

Scott sorry to hear about your issues, hope you get them resolved soon.

I am working on the aileron's, I sanded 2 of them down and marked out for the corrugations. I opened the box of Plastruct pieces I received over a week ago and the order is short. Should have looked sooner. I ordered 10 packs and received 10 and was invoiced and billed for 10. I sent an e-mail off ti the company asking about the remaining 4 packages. My guess is they didn't have 4 in stock and the rest are back-ordered. Hopefully they can get them here this week.

Here are a few pics, the aileron's look a pit rough but that is just the different colored primers and filler. They are nice and smooth and should look like a metal finish when painted.
Later!!

It took 1.5 hrs to complete one side. At that rate that's only 12 hrs complete the aileron's, much better then applying stitching and tapes

You can see in the pic how the end of each corrugation is shaped. This halps to keep from snagging them on anything and ripping them off and it is also more scale than a squared end.

What adhesive do you use for the Plastruct. (I've never used it.)

I use medium CA, bought a new bottle just for doing this and you have to keep the tip clean and apply just a very light film on the bottom side of the strip. I also keep a paper towel at hand to wipe along each side after applying the strip to the aileron.

I have one aileron complete top and bottom. Turned out good. I decided to set a few rivets in place to see how they look. I can tell it is going to try my patience putting all the rivets on.

Hey Anthony,

$300.00 for painting a plane is allot of money only if you don't have enough paint left over for two or three more.......................LOL I am really enjoying following along as you rebuild your Waco. Your skill and craftsmanship are going to result in a plane that is better than new and the addition of the rivets will only add to the beauty of the plane. I can imagine you're starting to get a little excited about finishing your Waco up and getting back in the air again, I know I would be. Keep up the great work.

Hey Wingstrut,

Are you going to do a build thread on your Waco? I know Anthony has set the bar kind of high for Waco build threads, but I'd love to follow along as you build your Waco especially since yours is going to be powered with a Moki radial. I'll even give you a little inspiration..................

Hrrcflyer, I thought about it, but I don't think I could contribute any thing that Anthony has already covered, as a matter of fact I am using a lot of his ideas on my build.
My biggest problem is that my brain doesn't work very well anymore, actually not much of me works very well anymore.Ha!Ha!

Thank you for asking, I will seriously think about it........I'm still doing inventory, what a pile of parts Wow!

Anthony, I know of one fella who spent over $1200.00 on his paint job.....OUCH!

Anthony, the paint is expensive, but worth it. Laying down the rivets will become easier after a while. It really does look awesome...

Anthony, what is the spacing between the corrugations? I went ahead and ordered the material direct from Plastruct. Wow, those things are small ! Alot smaller than I thought they would be for some reason.Nice work on your ailerons..... heck, awsome job on the whole build !!!

I would not think that $300 is really all that much for paint with this caliber of airplane; it aint a $30 of Monokote kind of airplane.

Alot of post today,
David thanks for the comments.

VJ you made feel guilty about the rivets so I had to put them on my plane

Scott the corrugations are spaced 5/8" apart. The 1st one on the inboard end is 3/4" in from the edge. This should put your last corrugation approx 3/4 from the end. There are 34 corrugations top and bottom as per the full scale. I suggest drawing them out using the dimensions supplied and see how it looks. It can be a pain keeping the bottom corrugations in line with the top.

TFF you are correct, there is nothing cheap about this build so why should the paint be. $130 in fabric/dope/polyc , $225 in stitching and tapes and $300 in paint. Hhhmmmm don't let my wife see these numbers

Off to work on an aileron.

Well I got ahold of the company I ordered the Plastruct from and they told me they could not fill the remaining order [:@]. AFter sitting on it for 2 weeks really stinks. I ordered the last 4 pks from another source and should have them next week.

While I am waiting on that I am going to work on applying the polycrylic to the wings and tail surfaces. I have plenty to keep me busy.

Already have what I need ordered. Thanks for the link.
I didn't like the way you have to order from them, no internet orders. I just wish the 1st place would have been up front about not being able to fill the entire order.

No kidding Anthony!  If a supplier can't and won't be able to fill your order, they should contact you immediately!  It's only good business.
So, out of curiosity, with whom did you fill your order?  If I ever need anything like that, I'll use them.

Take care,
David

David,
The 1st time I built the Waco I ordered all the plastic from Tower, when I went to order it this time it was out of stock, I ordered it from another source to remain nameless. After they let me down I checked Tower and they had it back in stock so I ordered it from them.

Working on applying polycrylic to all the flying surfaces. It will take about a week to have them ready for primer.

Nothing much exciting to post,
Been applying Polycrylic to the wings. All the wing panels have had 2 coats applied. I have 2 panels sanded and I am working on applying the 3rd coat. I am attaching pics of the panel with the 3rd coat. After the 4th coat the wings will be sanded smooth with 400grit paper and will be ready for primer. There is alot of sanding involved but it should be worth it in the end.
