RE: AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 Build
Least you guys think I never heard of narrow vinyl tape here is a photo of my Jungmeister. I plan to spray paint the black later today after it warms up a bit more. I'm using 1/4" tape. Unfortunately there is not a part number on the tape. I got it at an automotive paint store. They are really proud of it.
Tom, that looks like a Spacewalker II in the photo. Here are a few photos of a full scale Spacewalker II that I did volunteer building work for a little more than a year on. In the foreground is Jim's 1/2 scale Spacewalker II.

Ken,
Gald to see you have it back together, that's the same tape we use at work for masking our parts. It hold up well to our process. The 1/4" tape will make a pretty tight bend as well.
Wanna come to Ohio and help sand

Tell me about it, I used to be a precision hand finisher by trade. Try sanding metal parts to a mirror finish every day for 4 yrs.
Just sanded the center section down again and added some spot putty to a few areas, will drink some coffee and let that dry and start sanding again.

Hi Lonnie, how are you doing on your Waco?
I just sanded out the center section and kept finding little spots that needed some spot putty. I think I am finally finished and ready for the final coat of primer. I also smoothed out the inside of the hand holds, they are as slick as the rest. Now off to shoot the top coat of primer if I have enough left.
The center section will be getting alot of detail on it and if the base is not nice and smooth it will just draw attention to itself.

PS. The cake is good!!!

RE: AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 Build
Well I was off all this week and spent around 7 to 8 hours a day on the WACO. Spent a lot of time on details such as finishing the bottom cabane. I glassed it with 3/4 oz cloth and sanded, and sanded, and sanded some more. Hey Anthony did I tell you how much I love sanding. Not!!!!!!!!. Anyway it has now been primed and starting the detail such as the panels and wing fairings. Also worked on the wing tip lights. May have pictures of that tomorrow. But the big thing was getting the fuse ready to cover. Checking all the details lock tighting everything that may be difficult to get to. Finally got the fabric on and the tapes. So here are some pictures of that

Looks Great Lonnie,
I am assuming that you are puttting panels all the way to the back of the rear cockpit?

Finally started to sheet the fuse from the aft cockpit forward. The aircraft I'm modeling has sheet metal covering from the aft cockpit forward. This will be done with 1/16 balse sheeting and then fiberglassed and finally detailed out

I made the simulated fuel tank, I had bought some .025 plastic sheet but it looked too thick and was heavy. I wound up using some .010 thick aluminum roof flashing that I had on hand. I roughed up the back side with 80 grit paper and roughed up the center section where I wanted to glue the aluminum and used Locktite contact cement. It is taped in place and drying. I will scuff the top side with 240 grit paper and prime then start adding rivets.
After looking at Lonnie's plane it makes me want to throw all my stuff in the trash

Anthony don't go doing that. Think about all the fun you will have flying that thing. After all the work I have put into this one I will be having pucker moments everytime it goes up

I will keep that in mind but don't hold your breath
The aluminum is glued down and looks good, I will let the glue cure overnight then lightly sand the top and give it a coat of primer and take a break from all the sanding and put a butt load of rivets down.

I had one of those nights where I just couldn't get to sleep so I snuck off to the basement and scuffed the aluminum for the fuel tank and gave it a coat of primer, I just had enough primer for a thin coat so I gave it a couple coats of white paint. This will give me a good base to adhere the rivet details to. Once I get a couple cups of coffee in me I will map out all the rivet locations and the location of the threaded rods for the fuel tank mount. I will post some pics once I get the rivets applied.

Well I have to say the rivets work great,
Just set them in position and hold a soldering iron on them for about 3 sec and they are stuck in place. These are a little oversized for scale but good enough for me. They look much better then glue drops. I bought 2 packs of 144 and not sure that will be enough.

I had about 15 rivets left over so that puts approx 270 on the fuel tank.
They went on pretty easily and I think they look the part. I had a momentary laps in concentration with about 10 rivets to go and burned a hole in the covering between the fule tank and the L/E that I now must go repair[:@]. The rivets are held tight and it takes quie a bit of force to pry one loose, once paint is applied over them they should be locked in for good.
Here are a few pics.

Thanks Ken,
I already fixed the damage from the soldering iron and have it ready for primer. I had to stop and do some cleaning as it was getting to the point I couldn't find anything. I am going back and cleaning up some loose ends, I just completed the servo pockets for the aileron's. I also noticed that I did not plan ahead for the wing tip lights and run the wire with the aileron leads inside the cabane struts[:@]. All is not lost I will install some false fuel lines and run the wires thru the tubing. I need to go strip all the fiberglass off of the fuse and double check some glue joints and do some sanding in preperation for covering. Solwly but surely I am getting there.

They are a little large(about 20%) and there aren't as many as on the full scale but who's counting. Looks good to me and I am the one who matters, well unless the wife wants to throw her 2 cents in!!!

RE: AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 Build
I finished covering the fuse from the aft cockpit forward. This was done with 1/16 balsa sheet. I have also applied the glass cloth. Next will be the flow coat to cover the weave and a lot of sanding and body work. This will give the sheet metal finish I want. Work is a little slow it is 24 degress here and the work shop was 42 degress this morning and the was with a heater running all night. Took up to 1 o'clock to get it to 60 degress.
