What covering material are you using? I have a 1/6 SIG Cub and am mulling over the heat shrink covering choices. (One local flying buddy is using Stits polylite on a 1/4 scale Tiger Moth.)

Hello Cometkid- I used SIG's Koverall and Stix-It. Great stuff! Any of these types of fabric are a good choice. I had always used Supershrink Coverite but since it isn't available anymore I'm liking what I used more and more. It is definitely lighter since it doesn't have glue pre-applied. Just put it on, seal it with thinned nitrate dope and you are ready for paint. I don't think this airframe weighs 3lbs!

Thanks. It looks like I'll have to order direct from Sig. My LHS is a bit evasive with the salespersons saying things like "They might be going out of business."

It has been widely reported that Sig was again sold - this time to a consortium of 3, one being a major individual within the Sig organization and that Sig is staying put in Montezuma. Let's hope that happens.
In any case, Koveral is great stuff, especially for these fabric covered planes, Very easy to use. Very light when finished and extremely durable and tough.
You'll also notice when you read the instruictions for that Cub, that Sig says not to use an iron on covering. The reason is that the airframe needs a traditional doped fabric covering to strengthen it sufficiently. You don't get that with the iron on stuff.
I've built several of the Sig Cubs, including the 1/6 clipped wing size. Mine latest had a G-Mark .30 twin. Great combination.

Greg,
I have built many Cubs. I build all my own cockpit parts ie: seats, throttles, control sticks etc: The only thing I buy is the instruments. You can get a nice panel and instruments from InZpan. Do a google search for them. The panels and instruments are approx $30 with shipping and take about 3 weeks for delivery.

Greg, Waconut is right!! just mak'em. That is what I'm doing on mine. You should have the seats and instrument panel with the plane. I have looked everywhere for a kit and the one I found was imbarassing. I'm making the little things like the throttle's; fuel cutoff; trim handle; and mag switch.
The cockpit picture of the teddy bear cub, etc is an rc model believe it or not. I found the pic's here on rcu but can't remember where. The guy did an awesome job on scaling out a cub to make it look real. My son and I had a full scale J-3 in 2006 and I know what they look like, this modeler hit a home run on his inside and out. The only place he messed up was on the trim handle, he labeled it as window-should be labled as TRIM . I wish I had this guy's skills in making one look like he did.
Thanks,

RE: CALLING ALL PIPER CUBS!
Great Cubs and super Cubs everyone, one that I found totally different is the Japanese AF markings one, plus being a control line model doubles it up!. This great thread and you guys have done good job keeping it going still. I can't wait to get my 1/3rd scale Cub, I have been on a slow look out for one since mid 90s and now finally found one!. Pictures will be posted on here after it's arrival in the fleet and whatever it needs done to get it flying again. I looking for different then usual Yellow scheme on mine, pls suggest some different and unique schemes for it. A.net has been good help but still looking for something that would catch my eye or I'll design my own scheme for it....

With regard to the FlitFire I thought I would share with you some of the original factory marketing documents and a photo from April 3rd 1941. The paint scheme for NC1776 has been represented incorrectly for many years, notice on the factory photo that the center of the roundels is dark blue not red and the RAFBF script on the fuselage was also Blue (not black) as were the NC numbers under the wing.
Piper did not want to or was not allowed to put the actual RAF insignia on the Civilian aircraft during a time of war so the Flitfire received a fake roundel with dark blue center.
This photo is an early test flight photo and was used in the advance marketing. Later photos of NC1776 show the roundel repainted red the same as the other State named aircraft.

Hi Adam, I just acquired a 1/4 scale J-3 and a L-4, plus a J-3 unfinished kit. The J-3 needs some work, the L-4 is complete but, needs a good cleaning, receiver, and the Super Tiger G-2300 that was included, mounted. The kit is only started with a long way to go. I have an old Polk Tracker III system with several receivers I think I will use to fly the Cub's. I fly at my local airport and didn't have any glitch problems in the past with the 72 mhz frequencies so I hope that is still true . Glad I found you, will ride along and keep in touch. Will post pic's when I have some.
