As your buddy probably told you the Decathlon is basically an evolution of the Citabira, which in turn came from the Champ 7A series, from the 40's. As far as an ARF, there's not much out there now. Sig makes a 69" kit that sells for around $115.00! Your best bet, might be to keep an eye out at a swap meet or here in the for sale section for a Citabria that needs a little T.L.C. and recover in the scheme of your friends airplane.

Balsa USA makes a Citabria Pro kit, 80" wing span. There's one for sale now on RCU http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemid=479480
or you can go to the Balsa USA website.

I have a SIG Citabria that I never finished, It is almost ready to cover but has been sitting on a top shelf for some time. Here are the issues with the kit...

1) The left wing strut somehow got broken while it was sitting. You could probably patch it with epoxy, but since it is designed to be painted (not covered) you would probably just want to repalce the broken stick.

2) The Windshield has been misplaced, I haven't spent much time looking for it, but I doubt I will ever find it since it is not with the plane where I left it.

3) Both of these parts can be purchased Directly from Sig at www.SigMfg.com

If you are interested, I will sell the airframe (Ready to Cover) for $150, I bought a Thunder Tiger .40 2 stroke for it, it is NIB and I will toss it in for another $50

Midwest made a real nice one, but it was a kit..... The BUSA Citabria pro is a parasol wing....and a kit. It would take some creativity to turn in into a stock citabria. But it is a nice flyiing airplane!
