RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
Heading out around noon, should be there around 2.
Bringing my BUSA D-7. This is the first time that I have
flown anywhere other than my home field since 1987!
Staying for the weekend and am looking forward to it.

RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
Just got back to the house with some pictures from today's Ohio Dawn Patrol. The field looks awesome. Paul, Gary, Joe, and the rest have really done a great job again this year. When I left, there were 32 registered pilots and the flight line stretched all the way from one end of one runway - around the corner - and to the other end of the other runway. We are going to have to start double stacking next year I guess.
Last night, Paul flew his 1/2 scale Fokker right at dusk. Let me tell you - that is one big azz Fokker (sorry - had to do it). I brought him a Vess 32b prop to try this evening, which will make it one LOUD azz Fokker!! (OK - I'm done).
They also watched Hell's Angels and another movie last night plus sat around the campfire. If you have not been and plan on coming next year - definately plan on camping. A lot of fun happens AFTER the planes are put up!!!!
Here are some pics from today. These planes look incredible. The attention to detail on many was Top Gun caliber (actually, a few had been at Top Gun!).

RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
last one - I am uploading a video to you Tube right now of Paul's 40% Tri-Plane. I did not have my camera last night when he flew the 1/2 scale. I am sure someone will get a video today.

I am glad to see some pics of the event. I hope everyone is having a great time. I also hope everyone enjoyed the Red Baron movie I sent up for the evening show by way of Glenn Torrence. I was hoping to make it up again this year but work calls. Keep the pics coming for those of us could could not be there.

Hey Joe, Paul, and all. My apologies, I intended to be there, but at the last minute. (i mean midnight last Thursday). I was asked to help with some issues from my employer. Since I work with adolescents, and the arguement was strong. I stayed.
It looks like the ODP is a huge success. I am really enjoying the pictures and videos, keep them coming.

Wow!....I am beat! I had to go to work today just to get some rest[sm=tongue_smile.gif] I just wanted to Thank everyone that came to the 2009 ODP event and made it soooo much fun. We were real happy to see our old friends from 2008 and some new friends that really "kicked the event up a notch!" (Both on and off the flight line) for 2009[sm=lol.gif]
I cant possibly Thank everyone in this one post...I have 140 pics that I will post later with kudos and comment and try to cover it that way....Thanks again everyone for making all our hard work worth it in the end..........[sm=wink_smile.gif]
If I can borrow a line from my new best friend (Glenn): "As always any questions or comments welcome."

Just a short note to thank all those who ran and sponsored the Ohio Dawn Patrol. Rose, my dad and I had a great time. Well, mostly.[]
If you did not attend, you need to consider this event next year. Great flying site and great bunch of people.

Now a question. How do you get the machine gun sound effects?

I have one of the Paint Ball Guns in my 1/3 Scale BUSA Sopwith Pup. Very realistic and easy to program. Contact Paul and he may be able to set you up. I had a GREAT time as usual, good to see all my Dawn Patrol Buds... Bear

RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
Had a great time!! Brought three planes with me and thought that was maybe too many. As luck would have it, it wasn't enough. You couldn't ask for better weather all in all (a bit windy Friday though). Given the current economic situation, the fact that the attendance was comparable to last year says something. The Cincinnati Aeromodelers put of one great event!
Been editing picks for the last couple of days. I'll post them as I can.
Art Shelton flew his brand new 1/3 scale Nieuport 17 for the first time on Thursday PM (before the official opening of the event on Sat.) As you can see he still has the final detail work to do.
Joe Westrich flying his GTM 1/3 Fokker DVI
Another maiden flight before the event (Friday evening) was Dale Cavin's (Bookmaker) beautiful BUSA 1/4 DVIII
Unfortunately, due to a number of contributing factors, the plane was lost on this brief flight. Really sorry to see that happen. It is repairable though, and Dale says it'll go on a diet!
Another Dr1 in Josef Jacob's livery was this GTM 1/3 scale.
Lee McDuffe (Winterhawk's) GP Dr1.
I'm not as good as I should be about getting names, sorry. Most of these won't have a lot of info with the pics.
Paul Westrich's BUSA 1/4 Dr1
Joe from AL with his scratch built 1/3 Bristol M1c
Fantastic 1/3 DH2. This and the previous 1/3 Dr1 were from Florida.
Doug Bailey readies his 1/3 DVII. Paul Westrich's ex machine.
This Dr1 was done in the markings of the Dr1 replica in the AF Museum.
Oops! Too much smoke oil in the fuel system.
Somebodys beat up Fokker EIV.
This huge electric Gotha G.V was sure impressive.
Dave Johnson had raced to get this 1/3 DVII ready for the event.

More.... (what a cool time!)
That's Mark Enderby of BUSA (with the spiked helmet) assisting Dave with some tweaking of the DVII. Anyone who helps Dave has to wear that helmet.
A really sharp DH1a. This one was 1/4 scale I think.
BUSA's huge 1/4 DH4. Wow!
Dave Johnson and Mark Enderby again. Apparently Mark just likes the helmet. Mark's flying the DH4.
Hangar 9 Pup
Doug Bailey goes up.
Another nice 1/3 scale GTM DVI. This also from Florida.

RE: Ohio Dawn Patrol 2009
What an unbelievable turnout, and such nice stuff.
Sorry to hear about the Fokker D VIII crashing, but the 1/4 BUSA version has a bad rep around here, they tend to tip stall I believe BADLY..Everyone I know that has had one Imeediately got rid of it before it was TOAST. I wish someone would get the bugs worked out of it so that it flew as reliably as the other stuff BUSA sells... I don't know if it needs the wing cheated out a little bigger with more wash out? You would think it would be stable being a parasol wing design...
