RE: Hoosier Dawn Patrol
I was there only on Friday (they had strong cross winds), helping our club serve food and there was not a lot of flying going on. Here are some pictures from that day. It was the first Dawn Patrol i had been to and while i was only a spectator/server, the atmosphere was absolutely great.

Thanks for some pictures. Finally!
I loved them!
The website doesn't display properly. I've tried it on two different machines.
There are no scroll bars to get to the parts of the page which fall off to the sides or bottom so it is very difficult to get to those links. I finally had to use the middle wheel on my three button mouse to scroll down - and found a bunch of links that were off the screen before and totally inaccessable.
On most websites, I really couldn't care but I love to explore these Dawn Patrol sites!
On the Ohio Dawn Patrol site, I found it well organized and easy to navigate.

As far as pictures, I took some 700+ there. Good thing there wasn't much flying Fri, or Sat. For me, it takes time to go through and edit them down to an accceptable amount. Plus I crop and tweak most of those. It takes time, plus real work does get in the way some too.

RE: Hoosier Dawn Patrol
I've checked everything here and it seems to be working. I have a network of friends that I call, when I get a complaint that the site is not functioning, and have them check it. They report no problems. So, I don't know why it isn't working for you.
I'm not a professional programer and quite honestly, maintaining the site is not an easy task. I have been considering a total redo, but that would take hours and some one more adept than I am. The expense of hosting the site is part of the budget of the event, the Hoosier Dawn Patrol. I use Go Daddy as my domain host and that cost is several hundred dollars a year. The event income doesn't normally cover the expense it takes to put it on, especially with the AMA charging for everything now. So adding more expense, by hiring a programer or going to a more expensive format is not an option. I'm still investigating posibilities.

RE: Hoosier Dawn Patrol
What's more frustrating than a website not working?????? Monday and Today's weather has been perfect. High in the 70's, sunshine and NO wind. I mean ZERO wind. Did I mention the wind WAS NOT blowing!!!!!!!

Great Pictures, Mike, as always!!
Here's a few of my photos from the event:
First Flight - Friday Morning. Steve Percifield, aka Sir Percy, had the honour of First Flight (after already receiving a phone call at 6:10 AM from Billy Thompson admonishing Steve that he'd already been flying if he could've made the event):
Steve's SE5a in the morning sky:
HDP 09 officially under way!
And the winds are already starting to flutter the flags!!!

Flags of the Great War
When we arrived on Thursday, Doug Cox, Randy Adams and myself got with Sir Percy on presenting our collection of the Flags of the Great War. The collection now stands at 15 nations, plus the two war flags of Germany. And we took some inspiration from how Dale Cavin displayed his set at last year's Southern Dawn Patrol to run the flags down the flightline. I think they looked great:
They were - unfortunately - WAY too prominant most of the weekend, as strong winds on Friday and Saturday (crosswinds, of course) made for some challenging conditions at times:
But in spite of the winds, we had no crashes that I'm aware of, and only a few dinged wings and such to repair on the bench.
She Who Must Be Obeyed and I got a chance to pose in front of the Allied Sector during the event:
Helen and I had a great time flying and visiting all weekend!

The 1/3 scale N-28 belongs to Sam Parfitt, email [email protected]. He has a thread on RCU somewhere about his travels this summer

Review of the Threes
One of the highlights each year at the Hoosier Dawn Patrol is the Saturday "Review of the Threes" - as many one-third scale planes in the air as possible. I managed to snag a couple pictures of the action (which actually was done twice on Saturday - one unofficial practice session popped up spontaneously as well as the official launch in the afternoon):
As a note, I personnally think that the Review of the Threes is such a rush for the participating pilots, as well as all others spectating, that we are definitely going to try to do this at Dayton for the Dawn Patrol Rendezvous on Saturday!!

RE: Hoosier Dawn Patrol
The flags added fantastic flavor to the event. Many thanks to Lee, Doug, and Randy for bringing and displaying them. Also for the Guard Shack and PA system that unfortunately we could not get to work. I was hoping Lee could explain the significance of the flags to the group via the PA, but it wasn't meant to be.

RE: Hoosier Dawn Patrol
Two pilots who were obviously enjoying themselves were Dave Johnson and Dennis Crooks, both with 1/3 scale Fokker D.VII "Blue Birds": They put on some VERY spirited formation flying several times on Saturday:
I'm sure some folks got a bunch better pictures of the flying than I did - I was typically way out of position when the good stuff would start!!! There's just so much going on at these events!!!

Sunday Morning Patrol - Shrouded in Fog
Sunday morning we finally had some calm air - under a thick blanket of fog. I managed to sneak in First Flight with my electric Eastbourne Monoplane - never straying more than a hundred foot at most from myself!! - ahead of the bigger birds. As the fog lifted the powered airplanes were able to take to the air - calm, moist, heavy air - for some very surreal flying. Two who's pictures I manage to snag:
Randy Adams got in his first ever Fog Patrol:
Jim Suchy also got into the action with his Balsa USA Fokker D.VII:
Even while King Arthur (the always entertaining Art Shelton) bravely defended the Hoosier front lines with all the resources New Zealand could muster:
As a note, Art was already to make first flight on Sunday, until my little Eastbourne did the deed - he didn't sound too dissappointed that he didn't get to put his all silver plane into the sky that early. His Nieuport 17, in captured paint scheme, was almost always otherwise airborne all weekend long, and I really like how that Nieuport looks in the air. We've definitely got to get our own Nieuports done!!
