Bf109 Trop Filter construction
During the build of the 1/4.9 scale Fliteskin 109 F4 model, I bumped into the problem of building a Tropical Filter to replicate the Afrika Corps aircraft that was flown by Joachim Marseille. For the guys that have expresed interest in this version of the 109 and were not able to follow the RCSB forum, I am re-posting the steps.

RE: Bf109 Trop Filter construction
For the eye lids of the filter, I sanded a wood block and vacummed formed the dome, this will not be functional.
Then I used fine mesh from the paint store to duplicate the filter screen. Over the screen I added strips of fliteskin for the front, rear and top.
The brackets that support the front end of the filter, are made of two pieces of brass airfoil tube with a short 2-56 threated rod soldered inside. Nuts hold the brackets from inside the fuse.

RE: Bf109 Trop Filter construction
To complete the filter I added thin masking tape to simulate the overlapping of the filter lips. Also there are 2 straps around the filter. These are made of thin brass strips 2.5mm wide from www.specialshapes.com and held with 00-90 bolts and nuts.
The filter is now primed and ready for paint.
