Info on high wing taildragger Fairfield
I am looking for any information on a 20's/30's era high wing taildragger that I believe was called a Fairfield. I built a model of this plane some 30+ years ago, and I find myself getting a little nostalgic. It had really nice lines, a tailskid instead of a wheel, and I know it had wing struts. The cowl was not round, it was more like a DeHavilland Tiger Moth. I believe the full size plane was fabric covered, and seem to recall a narrow fuse (in line seating?). I've searched both the web and this site, and found a bazillion links to Fairfield, CA (which, ironically, I am about an hour away from), but nothing on the plane. Any help or leads would be appreciated!

Hehe, no I wasn't certain... It was indeed a Fairchild 22 that I was looking for. After 30 + years of hearing Fairfield (the city) I think my aging brain short-circuited... Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Beautiful planes, the Fairchilds. Which one of these was like yours? I can't for the life of me remember the models of the red one or the smaller blue and white one (with wheel pants). The larger one is a Model 71 and was an early passenger liner.

I like the radial engine ones with the enclosed cockpit, but the one I had was a bit older (Fairchild 22-b). They were made from 1931-1935. In 1934 they got the beefier looking radial and an enclosed cockpit. Kind of like a thin Waco. I think it was the Flyline Models kit. If I remember right, the kit was a bit tricky with laminated wingtips (no solid balsa block), and heavily fabrication intensive landing gear and struts...I think the balsa parts were printed, not cut. But it was pretty...

The current edition of Flying Scale Models ( the English scale magazine www.flyingscalemodels.com/ ) says there will be something about the Fairchild 22 in the February edition due out in mid January2010. Hopefully it may be a plan eventually
