To Paint or Recover ????
I'm working on or actually finishing up a 3 year project.
The plane is now covered with Natural Solartex, white.
I didn't put the covering on it was that way when I got the plane.
I've seen older paint jobs that are cracked and weathered.
Plus what do you do in case of a hard landing? Repaint?
To me the idea of a colored covering just seems right.
Then you have to have paint that matches the covering for the cowl.
What do you think? Paint or covering?
This isn't the exact plane but it is the exact color.

Will colored fabric you are limited by the colors available. On such a nice scale model, I'd want to make sure I had the color as close as I could get it. So my vote would be for paint.

I'd paint with latex. I'd also look up Roy Villaincourt's (sp?) article on painting with latex. I did a Sopwith Camel in "Dimps III" colors several years ago; it was damaged when I moved. The repairs are invisible from five feet. Keep a record of the paint. Roy has you add Flood's stuff to make it more flexible and flow better.

The color is International Orange. I'd use Stits, the repairs are invisible...period. And it's light and never cracks. http://www.stits.com

Paint it. The colored coverings are too clunky for my liking. Limited shrink sometimes too. If you have to repair it repair it; if it has to be perfect then flying is not a good idea. It is a Bellanca right? Looks good; nice scale airfoil.

If this isn't the "exact" model, then what is? Be nice to see it. Got an "exact" photo?
I've done both, covering material and paint. Lots of paint.
I don't believe you could go wrong with a painted model. Unfortunately, you will have to research the paint products. Nothing wrong with that.
I visited a website, that offers "Epoxy" paint, just minutes ago. Here it is:
www.klasskote.com
I used "Epoxy" paints for years, K&B.
Bothered me tremendously when K&B stopped selling this Epoxy product. Automotive paints are fine, but not as durable as the K&B stuff was.
I know nothing of klasskote.com. However, I will look into these "Epoxy" paint products offered by them.
If anyone knows about the klasskote.com "Epoxy" paint products, please let me/us know.
It will be a while before I'm ready to paint, but, guaranteed, my next painted model will be with an Epoxy system. Primer included.
Dig in and let me know!

RE: To Paint or Recover ????
Through hours of research I came across a plane that has taken on many changes, NC251M.
It started off life in Hawaii, then Alaska then Washington State then in a museum as another plane.
I'm going with the red with the winged star. That would be the Black and White photo.
Which one do you guys like?

Ralph,
Nice airplane to model.
I could do the graphicxs or mask for that logo on the side of the fuselage. The last color photo has a similar logo. Did you notice that?

The first photo was when it was Star Airlines, the last was when it was Alaska Airlines.
The star is refered to as the Kremlin Star. It's Cream and Bark blue.
The Alaska Airlines symbol has changed over the years.
The black and white one is from the 1940's.
The winged one is from the 30's.
The color one is just a few years old.

RE: To Paint or Recover ????
And here are other version of the same plane.
It had set so long that it lost it's tail number.
The Red Fuse is when it first started service for Inter Island Airways.
The flag one is when it was first restored to service with the new tail number.
And lastly is it is today. A simulation of another Belanca.
I understand that it is actually a poor representation of the New York to Berlin plane.
Like I said this plane has a lot of history

http://www.1000aircraftphotos.com/Co...aas/4571BL.jpg here is a pic of the NY to B. Each Bellanca was pretty much a custom order even when they talked about a production plane. Some are more famous than others but each is unique.
