RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING
MK Cessna 310G kit, span 71.5 inches. The kit came with a set of the Royal 310Q building instructions. If anyone needs a copy I can scan and email.

RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING
could somebody please help?
I'm looking for a set of marutaka plans for a zero fighter
its the medium size 1480mm wingspan version of the A6M3.
I've tried everywhere and can't find a copy anywhere so this is my last hope before
I throw the lot in the bin as I need to make a new wing.
without these plans the rest is useless and taking up space in my livingroom.

RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING
thanks Paul
but the only problem is I don't know if the A6M5 has the same wing as the A6M3.
or if once scaled down to a span of 1480mm it would be the same fitment. I'm not an expert with these kits as this is the first one I've owned and I didn't build it. if the plans for the A6M5 has the same wing then I'll be straight onto ebay cheers.

RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING
Interesting, I just picked up on this forum and though that Royal, Marutaka and Mk were history. Glad to see that there is still interest, I build few of the Royal kits and still have a Junior Zero still new in the box which I plan to put together some days. I went thru a box where I stored color drawings of airplanes which happens to be the original paintings/drawings of the Royal kit cover boxes. Royal was located in Denver and after closing doors a local hobby shop purchased most of what they had including plans, parts,etc... Well I ended up with most of the drawings (I thinks couple are missing) and put them away hoping one day I could have them framed and displayed all together on a wall. Well I started raising a family of three boys and got building larger models, those art works were forgotten until I got to read this forum.
Here is a picture of few of the drawings, since there are to many to show!

Thanks a lot for your input.
These drawings look very interesting and I would like to include a picture of each one in the listing but RCU does not allow me to edit this first post anymore.
May be should I ask them if it could be possible?

RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING
Hello,
just found this one, called Blue Devil, it was sold yesterday on eBay Germany, seller is in Austria:
Re-Sized image
Sale Description:
http://www.befr.ebay.be/itm/ws/eBayI...:B:WNA:BE:1123
I am too late to ask seller if any catalog was included, it could help filling a gap.
If anyone can help ... Maybe the buyer will know soon...
Edit: Seller has many other sales still going on, so I asked on one of these, waiting for reply.

When you guys buy these old kits to build, do you replace all the skin balsa? I found that the planking balsa on the B-17 I built was terrible stuff. It was all dried out and not so good even when it was new. I didn't replace the fuze planking and regretted it, but I did replace all the wing skins and was rewarded for the effort. The wing sheets went on much better than the fuze planking. Unlike fine wine, old balsa is not necessarily better balsa.

Like wine, when it's too old, it may be not good anymore.
Like wine, it strongly depends on how the kit was stored: too wet and wood will become like mash mallow. No resistance anymore, it may happen rather quickly with the very soft balsa.
Too dry and it will split or break when you try to bend it, even after wetting. Glued well in place it may give horrible finish when drying.
10 to 15 years old kits, well stored, usually give no trouble at all, also because quality of the wood was top.
Older kits need more caution and some testing on small parts that are easy to duplicate. you compare the old parts and the parts you have just made with fresh and perfect wood.
Better to break some test parts at this moment than later when the fuse or the wing is finished.
With very little experience you can feel immediatly the difference when touching the wood with your fingers, testing its flexibility, or when cutting and sanding the wood.
Discard the wood that shows humidity stains or present any other visible defect showing bad storage conditions. If it looks bad it will probably be bad for a good construction.
Any doubt with one particular part, you can quickly make a copy using the original as model, it takes very little time to do so and you will be sure to get a good result.

RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING
Great advices CaptainBlueSky. This discussion give me the opportunity to ask another question: which is the best way to store kits? A couple of years ago I started to buy kits. I have about 20 kits some new and some over 20 or 30 years old.
I live in a very dry zone so for better conserve the kits I wrap the boxes in nylon stretch film. I think the same goes to high humidity zones but I really not sure so tell me what you do.

RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING
I don't know if you need heating your house or not. If you are using a machine to add some humidity or not..
Most common problem problem for wood, paper and leather is that humidity + warm or hot temperature (from above 15 °C) will rot these materials.
You have exactly the opposite problem: too dry.
If you live in a very dry place you want to do the same as when storing your kits at home in colder areas, keep them in a non heated room.
The problem once you heat a house is that the air quickly becomes too dry, the humidity is always going to the coldest place that's why you want to store your kits in that cold room.
A basement is ok if it is not too wet which is probably not the case for you.
Not good for the average colder areas because the basements will often be too wet with t° being close to or or even a bit higher than 15 °C.
Just use the coldest room you may have if the outside temperatures are so high that you usually don't use any heating. You may need to add a humidifier machine to maintain some comfortable humidity level but if you are using air conditionning to lower the Temperature inside the house, you have to check the humidity level.
Around 45% to 50 % and average t° between19°C -21 °, then any room will be suitable..
you don't want to have a humidity level higher than 55 % as soon as temperature is over 15 °C.
The higher the T° and the lower you have to keep the humidity level for the wood.
Well below 15° C a higher humidity level will cause no damage, even if it goes around 70-75 %, but this is not a problem for you.
I forgot to answer about how I keep my kits: a non heated room which is just very fine for most part of the year. An automatic air dryer will start working in hot summer when we have a bad combination of too high temperature and humidity level.

Dead right Captainbluesky, wine is to be drunk, give us a ring and i will be around to help you,
as for storing your kits, they are destined to be built and flown not to be drooled at like a stripper in a bar.

I have one, but I only have one, so I won't part with it. I was lucky enough to get it from the Hobby Barn about ten years ago when Marutaka was still importing. Most of the Royal/Marutaka kits go for big money because they are no longer made, and they are great kits. 232 Euro isn't a bad price. Dave

There's a good selection of ROYAL - MARUTAKA plans for free download at:
http://www.outerzone.co.uk/search/re...oyal&Submit=Go
I think hippocketaeronautics has about the same selection - but access is more complicated if you are not already a member.
