Good idea. I was planning on taping it off, then back filling the raised areas with body filler after I sand the first coat of primer. (Like I did Rita)

Been trying to finish up the tail...

1. Filled and sanded the fin sheeting to blend into the fuselage in the area behind the stab.
2. Shaped and rounded the Fin.
3. Sanded, beveled and hinged the rudder to match the fin post.
4. I'm getting about 3-1/2" travel in each direction. About 35 degrees.
5. located the exit's in the fin post for routing the pull-pull cables.
6. Started rounding the bottom of the Fuselage.

Update... Switch panel box complete. I decided it wasn't necessary to make the back panel removable because it's easily accessible from inside the fuselage.

The fuse was cut exposing the exhaust stack bay I previously built into the fuselage. I used my 3-views to come up with a 1/32" plywood inlay to simulate the sheet metal around the stacks. I then sanded an angle on each resin stack and drilled them to accept a 1/8" dowel for locating the stacks. The 3-views show the stacks at non equal spacing so I tried to duplicate the best I could. Weird.

A lot of work but I think they look pretty awesome. Should be very convincing once painted.

Gotta finish the stacks and fuel-up panel on the other side, then on to the gun hood....rrrrr... non-gun hood, what ever you want to call it.

More progress on "The Pit"...

I made the floor out of Lite-Ply and built the side panel consoles to fit. I put some lite-ply and a dowel on the back of the hand crank thingy plus some balsa on the right side of the pit for the hand crank to plug into.

Basic carpentry is done. Trimmed the seat to fit flush with the canopy deck, ground the bottom of the control stick to lower it down.

It's all gonna fit! Gotta get after the top instrument panel next.

DD-Now just hear me out now....I have been kicking around the idea to going Electic on this project. No I dont have TBI from AFG...if your concerned.

Kick around some ideas of putting in a Lipo Box with access panel. Maybe the "frankenstein" Gun hood area can be a removable hatch, although may be too far AFT for CG.

Pros:
1. I have the lipos already
2. I have the support equipment already.
3. Clean cowel lines with no cutouts.
4. No fuel mess.
5. Less hassel with fuel lines, tuning engines, clean up.

Questions:

1. Flight times (TBD)
2. Hatch access
3. Making sure the spinner can be used.

WOW! Totally doable.

Find out what those Goodwine boys where using in those electrified 100cc extras they had. The gunhood is way too far back. The only option for the batteries is where the fuel tank goes. Prolly have to pop the wing off to get'm in before flights but there is lots of room in there.

ESC might need a scoop for cooling. Maybe the scale carb intake scoop could be used?

Yes I am really considering this option.

David- Lets do some more head scratching on a access for the Lipos. I really dont want to have to take the wing off....its a pain with the 262 and SeaFury when I do this. I wont be going to Top Gun with this one or Scale Masters...just local shows....so to lose some of the scale lines with a hatch is acceptable.

Todd- Anyone converting the retracts I have from SGS over to electric yet? Opinion?

The fuel tank area is ginormous. We can put a hatch just behind the firewall above the fuel tank compartment.
