Question... Do electric motors need to be baffled?

I'm thinking of a upside down U shaped baffle so air runs straight over the pop tart. I also want to use the baffle as a mounting ring for the cowl so I can hide the mounting screws.

Dave. Yes I think a baffle for air on the ESC is a good idea.

I wanted to try and lock tite the black socket head cap screws and turn down the heads using the lathe. Them turkeys are HARD!! I was able to turn one down with .005 cuts. Destroyed my hand ground HSS cutter. Oh well lesson learned.

In this instance... The good old Dremel tool and a bench grinder get's the job done efficiently.

Cooling... I'm thinking of cutting out the face of the cowl and putting in a ring with 4 stator blades around the spinner and moving the poptart under the top of the cowl to use the scale vents.

You didn't need to turn the heads down on the socket cap screws.I work at a shop where we make cap screws and different length set screws. No chance with using a scale 3 blade prop?? That's one advatage I like about electric power.I can use what ever prop is called for.Like I asked earlyer ,Is this a "ONE OFF PROJECT??".Keep up the great work.

It's been so long I forget all the details. But this started as a two Meister Scale D9 kits and a TA152 plans and wing kit from Ty. Bash all that together and poof you have this kit bashed highly modified TA152. I know Ty built one of these years ago, I am not familar of anyone else taking on this project. Lord knows I don't have the skills alone to do this so it's a joint project. Burley will be painting it and I will be doing all the electronics and maiden.

Dave I like your thoughts of the the scale vents in the cowel and putting the esc there. My only request is the esc not be visible. So I don't want anyone looking down on the plane and seeing the esc. So let me know your thoughts.

Tall order... Maybe we should just put pop tart at the bottom like we originally planned. I'll come up with screen window mesh to hide the vent hole under the cowl. Burley can just paint fake vents on top of the cowl.

Maybe we don't need a vent hole at all.
