RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
Thanks a lot Matz [8D]
They are very helpful.
Today I made a new drilling jig that suits the job better. Now I only need the old vice for flattening the eye ends and make the cut in the fork end.

No problem, I hope it help you.
Teus,
at the moment my friend Eberhard mounted his full size Fokker E III, do you need some details, before is it covered?
Now is the Fokker Jasta complete and the Albatros DIII also.
Don, the high-resolution photos are arrived.

55 finished TB's [8D]
The new bar material was delivered on Saturday so I could finish the last eye and fork ends to complete the turn buckles. All 55 are made now plus some extra eye ends for Don Now make them ready for shipping and when I got the mail addresses they can go on the way[8D]

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
Teus' turnbuckles arrived in this morning's mail. The workmanship is outstanding. All slots and holes were precisely on center and the uniformity of all 20 is as close as one might expect from CNC machining. The finish of the brass barrels and eye/fork ends is first class. I plan to pull test them soon. They compare well with any product I have experience with to date, including Proctor and several mfgr's available from Cornwall boat hobbies. And they are dead nuts scale to boot! Looking forward to using these on my Rumpler....................John

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
I got mine today and here is a photo to show some comparisons.
The big turnbuckle on the left is the 3mm Kavan, (with one eye cut off to attach a fork end). Next is my combination Dubro using one of their turnbuckles and one of their forkends, painted with a bronze paint. Third is Teus' turnbuckle and the last is a small 2mm Kavan with a Mick Reeves 2mm forkend.
The big Kavan is advertised as having a 500lb. break strength, the smaller one, 150lb. Given that Teus' turnbuckle is made with steel eyes and forks, and has the same 3mm thread as the big Kavan, I am sure it is AT LEAST as strong.
I am really impressed with Teus' turnbuckles and suggest that he gear up for at least 100/month! I'm not sure what I'll be using the Turnbuckles on as my Aviatik is already set with the Dubro combos, but I am looking forward to using them.

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
Glad they all arrived in good shape,
I am also developing a TB in 1/3th scale but I doubt if I use 3mm (M3) thread or go to 4mm (M4) thread
Any thoughts?

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
Just remembered that I already made a attempt for a 1/3th scale example a few months ago,
Here you can see it in comparison with the 1/4 scale version:

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
I like the idea of all steel construction. One of the things that most model turnbuckles lack is the right "aspect ratio" - real turnbuckles are long and skinny. I would think that all steel is the best construction and would allow that ratio. If the all brass, 3mm Kavan turnbuckles are good to 500lb, then an all steel 3 mm turnbuckle would be PLENTY for a 50lb 1/3 scale model.

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
Just finished with version-1 in 1/3th scale.
I used the measurements from the German No.10 medium turnbuckle, so these are very close to scale. The barrels on the photo are 5mm round to simulate a more British style, this was on request. The used thread is M4 for more rigid in a 1/3th scale model. I made also a batch with hex barrels both in 5mm brass and steel and these are 1" long and simulate a German No.8 short version. Because I am out of hex stock again and can't show a German No.10 medium version in hex barrel. The eye and fork ends are drilled with a 2.5mm hole. So it is possible to thread the fork end with M3 if desired.
Any comments or suggestions?

Out standing work Mr Teus. Your level of craftsmanship is on the rise with all the practice. I really like the 3" model shown at the bottom. A 4mm thread should be suitable for half scale as well and there are a few of those being built these days, though the DrI is the most popular and it doesnt use as many braces. There is a Dh 2 in 1/2 scale being built that I know of
