This is great a GREAT picture!
Great model, the best Jug' I've ever seen.
Tight crop gives the model real mass and fantastic dynamics... depth of field, lighting... it's all just PEFECT.

Heres a couple I thought was very realistic if it just had gear doors.

Heres one of my P-40, damn those missing gear doors and pilot!, but when my BT-13 is done, it wont need gear doors and I hope to have some very realistic pictures of it and I will make sure there is at least one pilot in it. The full scale is polished aluminum, so is my 1/5 scale.

Very nice shot of the Tiger, what camera/lens did you use?

Wow, you could put a paper airplane up in that sky and it'd look amazing. Not to mention thats an amazing model to boot, if it is a model. Well done all around.

Hi Guys,

The Tiggie is about 1/4 scale & I have to say I think its probably the most realistic R/c model I've ever taken pictures of. The camera I used for that shot was a Canon 1D iv + Canon 300mm f2.8 L Lens.

Heres a close-up of part of my BT-13, as soon as I get the cowl and a couple other things on it, I will get some pictures of the full aircraft.

Heres a couple pics of the first flight to prove it is an RC airplane. When the owner and pilot of the full scale BT-13 saw these pictures, here was his response.... "Holy crap Denny!!!! It's just like looking at a photo of my plane!!! I can't wait to see it!!!!! Look's great! Skip"n I did get a kick out of his reaction. I added a pic of Skip on the full scale to compare.

Nice photos of this RC event. But none of them fit the spirit of this thread.

NeiHutch, truly some outstanding photographs, the prop shows some slow shutter speed?, was the camera on tripod? Hope to see some more

I politely disagree. I guess you didn't look all the way through the gallery to see the "in flight" shots.

Hi,

No the shutter speed is quite high - usually around 1/1000th sec. This is because of the high engine revs. Taking pictures of the real stuff the shutter speed is around 1/320 - 1/400th sec - depending on what aircraft I'm trying to get. All down to engine revs & how much prop blur you want. Here's a typical example - full size Spitfire - Merlin power - will be 1/320th sec & the Griffon powered Spitfire will be 1/400th sec because of the higher engine revs. It all down the personal preference.

As for using a tripod - models move far to fast for that.[:o]

Neil

TJ, I've looked through all 16 pages and there are a couple very "real" looking shots. I like the vertical head-on shot of the Nieuport with the red, white, and blue wing. And the "air-to-air" shot of the greenish DVII is good. Unfortunately, in many cases, the models themselves are only sports scale, for example, the BUSA eindecker done up as an EV. In other photos, the backgrounds, while creating a pleasing general composition, distract from the reality of the photos. I stick by my opinion that you've done a very good job of documenting this scale RC event. And that's no mean feat.

No harm Abu, I just felt that your comment about "none of them" fitting the spirit of this thread was off the mark. Thank you though for the compliments about the coverage. A full article will appear in the July issue of Model Aviation. It's often difficult to get a background that is interesting and doesn't ruin the effect of scale. I did what I could to create bokeh when possible. The Nieuport was actually done in Italian colors as an N17C1 "Balloon Buster" with extra armament. One of my other personal fave's was the 1/3 Scale Scratchbuilt Albatros.

:D Ah, does that ever bring back memories of past discussions on photography forums! Good bokeh vs. bad bokeh.
