I think this forum pretty much died on the vine...5 years is a long time to wait...yeah I get it....anyways...had to post this pic of the wings all coming together. I just love the contrast of the flight metal and the RLM colors...

Looking good Pandi!
here is my 1/4 TA-152H plugs. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...psy32gbdbe.jpg |
That's sweet Thomas. Didn't know you were making big 1/4 plugs. Wish you had about 4-5 years ago before we started this project. It's hard to get a feel for just how big this plane is with pictures. Your projects are always so cool so keep us posted on how things go. I'm hoping Todd finishes the weathering and paint soon so I can finish the final install and get this thing in the air finally.

Pandi, I'm so glad this project is going again. It looks like its coming along great now, love the paint scheme. Keep the pics coming man.

Some inspiration. I am gonna guess the first pilot was not the builder. Maybe the expert pilot, maiden flight guy. The second pilot clearly needs to practice a little handling a warbird. Great vid though. So glad that second landing did not hit the Yugo! lol

Good video. Looks like the Wulf takes off and land like a Cub. That first landing was smooth and seemsed walking pace. Nice job whoever these guys are.

In an attempt to keep this one "scale" Todd and I are going with what is thought to be the true representation of Grun 4 when captured as seen by these stencil layouts.

Hi pandissix,
Looking great !! Can you go over the paints you've been using ? Is the bare aluminum Klass Kote? Did you spray the aluminum as gloss then knock it down with sanding or Scotch pads ? I've been trying to decide how to do the same effect and purchused some Flite Metal to play with this summer before I begin my project. Since mine will be glow I'm thinking of selectively sealing the Flite metal edges with exhaust stains, some dullcoat, and the hand painted red primer that was field painted on the wing seams. Of course, paint would be easier to seal. Seems like I've spent more time thinking about this part of the project than any other bit. lol Keep posting the great info and pics. It's great fun seeing a great project come together!! Joe |
Joe,
The paints I have been using for this project is Nason brand 2-stage paint (base / clear) The aluminum color is Silver Butyrate dope. I slowed it down with mid temp reducer, and used hardener in the aluminum color to give it some toughness. Being it is dope, with aluminum powder in it, it gives that nice dull aluminum finish I wanted. |

Thanks Todd !!
Great info indeed.... Vertical Grimmace, Thanks, I don't want to de-rail pandissix's thread. I see so few FW's with natural aluminum finishes on the bottom of the wing like this and always look to see how they did it. My project is a SiSt D9 and the lithoplate may be too thick for that project. Five years is a long journey and it'll be cool to watch this 152 project in it's final stages. Bring on the pics and video !! :D Thanks guys. Joe |
Welcome Joe, the silver Butyrate dope works great. I use a medium reducer with it
as well, just to help slow down the flash off with it, and the hardener helps. In the past I had adhesion issues with it kicking off too fast. Now I use an adhesion promoter before the dope, and over it prior to color |
Joespeeder, I guess I did not mean using litho for the metal simulated wing bottom. I was talking about for simulated hatches and such. If you have a SisT, then I am sure all of that stuff is already molded into the fiberglass.
I find it interesting to see a bare metal bottom wing on a TA 152. As I have a lot of books, and have not seen it documented that way. |
There where quite a few late war Luft planes with bare metal bottoms, 262's, D9, D13 (like Evan's)
Green 9 TA152 flown by Willi Reschke had bare metal wing bottom along the center. We took some "artistic" license from Green 9, and applied to Green 4 here to break up the bottom of the wing on ours |
Yah, it really does not matter if it will not be in competition, requiring supporting docs.
|
Thanks vertical grimmace,
Yup, I knew what you meant... I do want to work with Litoplate at some point. Sorry, to confuse things. Lots of late war metal bottoms:D and some gun hoods. Just don't see them modeled to often. Joe.... Flying blind on a Rocket Cycle !! |
