Seawasp motor question
I have two Seawasp 6 electric motors ( 6 volt- 10,000 rpm) in one of the tugs I am redoing. They are made with water cooling inlet-outlet-jacket. Even though I have been at this 40 some years I don't know a darn thing about them. Are they good ones? Worth keeping? Do they run hot so I have to run the cooling? Are they antiques worth selling or just paper weights? Any info would be appreciated...rctugger

Collectible & sell them AFTER you see some previous prices.
I would definately put the water tube pickups at the top backside of the props to cool the motors in Foward.........You may not need cooling if the motors are run inside of the current limits.

The Kroker Sea Wasp motors you have are not good for a tug boat. They were the "fast electric" boat motor back in the day. Too much rpm for a tug, though.
They are highly collectible due to their outstanding craftsmanship and cast metal frame. If in 'mint' condition you could expect to get around $150 or so for one, depending on fleabay bidder frenzy.

RE: Seawasp motor question
Thanks Tom. I really appreciate the specs-general info-and operating instructions on the Sea Wasp. I have always been into tugs..never fast electrics...so that is probably why I dont know too much on the Sea Wasp. Yes it is too high rpm for my tugs. They were set up driving thru Dumas 4.5 to 1 gears and even then, they would be too fast and most certainly way too noisy for my tastes. I have a tendancy to use Pittman/Dumas 5000 rpm motors...quiet, strong, lots of torque, and decent battery drain. I also really appreciate your thoughts on the value of them...I really didn't have a clue. I will be selling them, probably on Ebay to finance some more tugs projects.

If you see any BIG Pittmans. The 3200 rpm on 12 vdc GRAB them. I put 1 in the Latina Amsterdam with 1:1 timing belts to get the driveshaft right on the keel. It allows me to use the largest dia. & pitch blade that Octura makes in racing plastic. I can hear the whirlpool air suction gurgle from 15' away. The prop wash is very real in foward or reverse.
The motor is the size of a fist. Really very efficient servo motor.

Hi Fry,
I also have theSea Waspmotors & am going to put the them in my Dauntless. They were originally in a large 1950's ocean liner. They are supposedly excellent motors. The company went out of business many years ago. What are your plans with them? I would love to get my hands on another pair.
-Rich.
