Best prop angle for 1/8 scale hydro
Any advise on the prop angle and prop depth for 1/8 scale hydro? Any limit recommendations (i.e. no more no less than)? Any explainations about how prop angle and depth affect these would be great. I asume they are similiar to other boats in that more angle increases angle of attack and the deeper the prop the higher the stern will ride, correct?

I was hoping someone would chime in, no luck on that one apparently. Here'e my take on it so if anyone want's to add to or give other thoughts, go for it.
First off prop angle(aka thrust angle) isn't the only thing in which you need to deal with. Prop depth is just as much of a factor. As a general starting point, I'd go with a flat thrust angle with the prop centered at the depth of the sponsons. There are several reasons for this:
1) a flat thrust angle means the prop's thrust won't be influencing the boat's running characteristics
2) a flat thrust angle will give you the most speed as well as show the need for a lifting or standard prop
3) a flat thrust angle will show if the hull as other issues with balance, sponson angle of attack, etc
4) centering the prop at the sponson depth will, if everything else is set up correctly, give the boat the closest to level ride it's going to get.
After the first few runs, making small adjustments (changing props, prop depth, changing thrust angles, etc) can be tried to "dial in" the boat's ride for best speed and handling

I've grown up driving real boats, any thing from a 10' aluminum with a trolling motor to a 20' Gambler with a 225hp outboard and have always been fasinated by the hydros. A buddy of mine got me into RC planes last year and when I saw some of the boats running here locally Inew Iwas going to have to have one. I'm building the 1/8 Atlas Van Lines from Garry Finlay's plans. Ihave changed a few things based largely from posts I have read. Ifigured it was as good as any to get some experience building a boat. I've build a lot of planes now and that experience has helped in the fabrication department. I ordered the Newton plans for the 2008 U-50 Spirit if the Navy. I hope to build that one late this summer or fall once I have gained some more experience.
