Default Sterling American Scout

Ahoy
I just pulled this out of my mothballed fleet I built this one in 1960 bought her in 1957 still retains in mint condition all thos years I had her cratred up. The power is a dinosour state of the art Rc for that time A Babcock citizenship radio all tube and still works thinking about aborting this old relic and installing new radio and speed control. The electric motor is a Acme 6 volt motor still runs I will not scuddle this motor I havent ran it that much still new. I will take some more pictures of her underway as soon as the rain stops out here in Ohio land. I am looking for a good sailing day this Staturday. Here are some pictures of her.[img][/img]

That is one beautiful model and over 50 years old to boot! I know thre was no such thing as RTR back in 1957 and 1960 adn from the pictures you were very near a master modeler then so you must be one now.

I hope she hasn't sprung any leaks while in storage and good lick to yur this Saturday. We're supposed to have fair weather in the mid 70's here in central Indiana so you probably will have about the same there in Ohio, unless you are north, then a little cooler.

Post some video of her sailing if you can.

Nice deckape! I built one in the mid-70's and I sure like the
tan colored booms and masts a whole lot better than the white I
painted mine. Mine is dry-docked in the attic in a custom built box.

Franklyn,
Be looking forward to the pics and video. And yes, really tired of all the rain (and it looks like a lot of misspellings on my part ). It's taken nearly half the day but the sun is finally shinning here, hope it is there in the Dayton area too. I may even get the grass mowed today, it really needs it.

Oops, just checking my popup blocker. Guess I got it fixed right, no delay in response.

Too bad I can't just delete this one.

Sirs...Can anyone tell me if an American Scout (new) is available? I built one back in the 60;s and gave it away! But it would be great to build a new one.

Sorry to say that Sterling has been out of buisness for some time now. They closed up shop back in the 70's when Estes bought them out. Your best bet would be to find an old kit on FleaBay.

What a lovely model! I, too, look forward to seeing more of her in the element.

What is the scale of United States I see in the background of the first group of photos. Its a shame that's also not RC.

I just picked up an Ameriecan Scout with my son at an estate sale. It's in pretty good shape, but it has been a great father and son fix-it project. I have a friend of mine looking at getting the motor up and running. Any advice on re-attaching parts, i.e. type of glue etc... I really need some new string for the riggings, but that has been hard to find.
