Which 1:96 scale sailing ship would make the best USRCS Bear (AG-29)?
I was thinking about potential future projects and, after seeing the 1:100 scale model of the Pourquoi Pas, began wondering if it’d be possible to transform this model into a 1:100/1:96 scale model of the USRCS Bear.
Unfortunately, while these ships look somewhat similar (with the Pourquoi Pas lacking the superstructure present on the Bear, and having its stack in a different position), I discovered that the Pourquoi Pas is roughly 2/3 the length of the Bear, with the Pourquoi Pas measuring 40 meters in length and the Bear measuring 60.5 meters, or 198.5 feet in length.
The CSS Alabama, another screw sloop, is much closer to the length of the Bear, at 220 ft to the Bear’s 198.5, but, first, I don’t want to alter one of these rare models and secondly, other features such as gunports (the Bear had none) would complicate this conversion.
Would any of you know of a screw sloop model that would better serve as a starting point for the creation of the USRCS Bear, circa. WWII (I’ve included two pictures of the USRCS Bear during this period)?

The original ship was a Barquentine.
Perhaps starting there you can find something along the lines of the Gazela.
