If you want lightweight maybe build an aluminum frame for the deck and use a lighter and thinner wood than 1/4" ply, waterproofed with epoxy or a fiberglass layer.

RE: Pontoon Boat and trailer 1:10 scale
Back in 1993 Andy Zigan came out with plans for a 1/8 scale R/C model of a 24' Pontoon boat and used an MRP outboard for power. The pontoons were made of 3" Irrigation pipe and turned wood plugs for the front and rear of the pontoons.
I happen to have the plans but never got around to building one of the pontoon boats.

Thanks for your replies.
dauntlessfan, I think I will go with 3/16 ply. Do you think that would work?
rblubaugh, I have drawn my own plans, but if you want to share yours, I would greatly appreciate it, and I will try to incorporate concepts into my plans.

For the fun of it I emailed all the files to myself and they attached just fine so I know it will work with FireFox and probably IE too. PM me you email address and I'll forward the plans to you. You can hopefully get a gem or two from them.

PM sent.
I have started drawing up plans for the trailer and I would post them, but RCU keeps giving me ERROR! messages. I'll try again later.

Ditto for me JSS4, I would also appreciate a copy of your plans, when all is complete. I've come up with a couple of outboard motor from a flea market at an unbeatable price. Won't be home for a few days to test them out but they do turn freely, but not too freely. Perhaps they will work or be dummies for an alternative power (depending on the plans.

Thanks for your interest.
R, What outboards are they? Do they have a name? Because I was looking at a pair of Proboat outboards (from the Stiletto) which are very pricey. Not including motor and ESC. Please send me some pictures when you get the chance, I might buy them if they are any good, or one could be a trolling motor
Anybody, would this ESC be any good? It's almost $100 cheaper than the Proboat one.

OK now I have my wood and my pontoon material! Let's see if anything gets done during school. I am dubious, but I think it can be done. Maybe tomorrow I'll cut the pontoons and deck.
I'll keep you guys posted as I progress, I didn't get this far only to not build it.
