Boulderboater ,
Nice PT boat you got there and Love the scale.
With mine, I opted to go on the cheap and went to Sky Craft and found that large 3 inch diameter Marine Pump Motor for $24.95 plus local tax (Brand new) and it does not need any cooling what-so-ever.
I believe my large PT311 has enough speed for my satisfaction and all is pretty simple to deal with.
Have fun.

RE: PT-311 (1:12 Scale) 6-Foot RC Electric Boat Model
WW II PTB give us unlimited freedom on deck equipment. Very few were the same. I had no knowledge of a gunboat version when I did mine. Put on a 40 mm stern. 2 37 mm sides 1 bow 37 mm & the 2 twin 50s. Then decided to make it a transitional boat with 2 long & 2 roll off torpedos.
At 8' I was politly told I really had a small real boat to power. Wound up with a 41 # trolling motor inside driving 2 5" x 5" x 5 bladed Prop Shop props. regular full sized car battery With a Novak Reversing Super Rooster ESC. Can not kill it. Even with reversed polarity hook ups. Just blows apart the circuit breakers.
Kind of got carried away with 6 big G M car speakers & dual channel 120 watt amplifier with the speed & volume both increasing together.
Still needs torpedo launching systems. The props are speeded up with a 1 : 2 over drive timing belt system & S S drive system.
At 75. Might not do the launchers

Hi good people,
Just wanted to share a Fun Sail event with the North Florida ORCAS RC Boat Club and who invited me and my good friend Tony Lombardo. We traveled from Central Florida to meet with these dedicated RC Boat club members to experience their waters (Lake Park) at LOSCO REGION PARK located 10851 Hood Road South in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville.
http://nfloridaorcas.freeservers.com/about.html
I had a terrific time with two of my RC Boats and glad I came because I needed to work on both of these fine RC Boat Models that I have acquired within the past two years now and these boats always needs work for either making sure all systems are working correctly "or" appearance and scale work that might need attention.
Just a few pictures of my super LARGE PT311 (Torpedo Patrol RC Electric boat) that spans six (6) feet long. The smaller and fantastic looking and running PT boat is from an RC Club member from North Florida ORCAS.
Oh, and let's not forget........

That big PT looks really good on the water. I only see two things I would change and they're cosmetic. The full sized 311 wasn't an Elco, it was a Higgins. It was sunk by a mine November 18, 1944 in the Ligurian Sea. You might consider the 314, 317 and 321. They were all Elcos that wouldn't require major reworking to change the number on the hull. The only physical change would be fabricating a 20mm gun and mounting it on the stern if desired. That brings up the second change, remove the number from the bow unless you want it to be a training boat. Once PTs arrived at their forward base, the bow numbers were painted over to make the boat more stealthy at night

Thanks Hydro Junkie,
I have read up on the history of the real Full Size one that went down and you are correct, it was a Higgins.
For some reason the Navy Resource web site is down so, here is an alternate:

EDIT: HERE!
http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/05311.htm
However, I was not the one skilled enough to build this fine looking (as you say in the water) and will need some time to get someone to change the number, however, at this time, it is interesting to hear from people like yourself who knows and it becomes a conversation piece with strangers when I take her out to stretch her rudder!
Thanks again!

I am very sad to report that the builder and good friend of this fine RC Boat model, Richard Milton has passed away.
I have sent my deepest deepest sympathy
Praying for his family during this this difficult time.
I will forever remember Richard as he allowed me to acquire something from him that I will always remember him by.
RIP Richard.

Okay guys,
Working on the large lady and preparing for a mission soon at a community lake at one of my family's house in Kissimmee, Florida!
Soon will post pictures of my ticker with it and OPS at the Lake!
I am aiming for this coming weekend as it is getting cooler!
Again, this is a Community Lake (retention Pond) where my family and friends live in Kissimmee, Florida spans at least 500 Feet across East-To-West and 200 Feet Wide North-To-South.
My Cousin and his Dad frequent this back yard lake with their Fast Electric and Glow Power Boats.
Here is an Aerial View.. (I like it since the chances of having a Gator around this Lake is slim to none!) Of course, we all can not take any chances....
