Everyone,

I've got a bit of a interesting question regarding RC boat building. Does anyone know of anyone that has built a Chesapeake Bay Deadrise Boat? Either as a kit, or from scratch? I've got the idea of building one as my safety boat. Plus my boys could run it if they want to come with me. There is one at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michael's Maryland that I think that I could study, but if someone has done the leg work and is willing to share it would be nice.

Well, I've asking around and there are a few people out there that have built a few. One from a guys shop called Pats it shows promise, then there is the one offered from the Museum at St. Michaels of the Martha. So I'm hoping that I'll get some time to go over in person and look the kit over just to make sure that it is possible to make it RC.

Greetings machinist007. I am building my first boat after building and flying model planes for 30 years. I am building Pat Tritle's Hughie B Chesapeake deadrise work boat from plans. I am toying with the idea of a build log if there is interest. I have been taking pix of my progress. I'm about 60% done now. Looking good, if anything I'd be willing to see how it goes. I see that you're making your's a round stern, does the plans give you different options to do a square stern or would that be something that you would have to figure out for yourself? I have found a picture of the kit offered by the Maritime Museum that someone has already built.

Also, we are only able to print at 23.75inches high so the printed plans would need to be downsized to 23.75x55 and 23.75x32 for sheet 6. The plans call for the round stern as I am building. The stern could be changed to suit the builder, i am sure but would take some re design. I picked the plans for several reasons. My older brother (deceased) was named Hugh and was called Hughie (our last name starts with B), we live in Virginia and see these types of boats frequently. Mine is not representing any particular boat, I just want to capture the flavor of the type. They all seem to be one-off's so It allows freedom to detail it in a way that the rivet counters can't complain too much. Also as a first boat build i wanted something simple. I will post some more pics soon.
