RE: tugboat
knowbest,
I've used a 'Traxxas' "XL-1" (or maybe LX-1?) with great success in boats about the size you specified. It'll handle up to about 8 volts and over 10 amps, but can't remember the actual ratings. There are several on the market, the 'Traxxas' is the only one I'm familiar with, though, so I'm sure there will be other suggestions.
What sized motor? Ehh, that's not exactly the easiest question to answer because it depends on several other things such as the prop, total weight of the boat, and what you 'happen' to find. Again, lots of possibilities. You might take a look at www.vac-u-boat.com , Phil has a couple of motors that are very reasonably priced and should work just fine in your boat (several other things that are handy too!). Another one of those 'again' things, there are gobs of different motors, sources, and so on. This one is just one I'm familiar with...

RE: tugboat
Knowbest,
Proboat makes a great one. It is used in some of their boats and it has forward/reverse and is water-resistant. Also is extremly easy to set up. The best part is it is only about 40 bucks from Horizon Hobbies. I have been using them for some time now and I really like them. They seem to hold up very well.
Hope this helps you out

Take a look at www.mackproductsrc.com. They have gear trains that cover just about any need you might have. I use a Mack gear box in my Hartman Tug and it works great. You could always put together your own gear train from stuff you can find out and about, but that can be a pain. Best of luck.
