RE: Donzi
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but here goes. What kind of prep work if any is needed before painting the hull? I'm thinking a very light sanding. Also, what type of paint are you all using? I would like a smooth uniform surface but dont want to spend another 2 years getting it done. Thanks in advance, MERC.

RE: Donzi
I am pretty new to the RC boat game and have done nothing but sailboats to date. I would like to build a Dumas Donzi but want to be sure it is within my level of skill. Any way of viewing the plans or instructions prior to purchase to see that it is something I can do?

ianolw I don't have a set of plans to post for you. the kit is not that hard to build but it will take some time and patiance. The hardest part I remember was the tuna tower. I don't know your skills so it is hard for me to say. I f you hve little skills I would start with something else. Good luck

Hi,
The tubes sticking out of the stuffing boxes are oilers. I solder grease zerks to them and use synthetic grease pumped in with a grease gun. However, in the form you are speaking of a light machine oil dropped down the tubes should be sufficient. As for the thrust washers, the name implies exactly what they do. They are there to prevent or more correctly minimize friction. They do not actually hold the shaft in, the coupling on one end and the prop and prop nut on the other end do that. The washers do also help keep water out when running so make sure they are in there.

I'm not sure. I think it may have been glitching. Because he was using an AM radio (bad imho) and I also noticed that while he was putting the boat in the water, the motor buzzed over for a split second. And, when he was taking it out of the water, it happened twice. To the point I picked up his Tx and held the antenna up just in case it was due to lying on the ground.
So, not sure. It may have been glitching. Or, he may have simply backed off the throttle at those times. This boat weighs around 50 pounds I thought, when I picked it up. So, letting off the throttle is like putting on the brakes I guess!

RE: Donzi
Don't know too much about boats but here are my impressions:
- too heavy - sinks too much in the water
- top heavy - unstable in turns
- too fast for a scale model - never seen a real one go so fast reported to scale.

RE: Donzi
that's a pretty boat, great video!
i think it runs scale like, nice speed. it a bit top heavy thu and nose heavy as stated by kaoma.
nascar, you need to know the stall current of each motor, if its less than (combined) 50amps, i guess it would be ok.
