1/250 Huge Japanese Navy Battleship " Yamato"
I have a chance to get a 1/250 Japanese Navy Battleship " Yamato" for about $160.00, It has all the hard ware for R/C but less the 3 motors(230's), It is still in kit form with a one piece hull. By Doyusha....
Is this a buy that I would feel good about considering the size, maker, prices in general?.

What do you mean it has all the hardware for R/C?
This kit is made for R/C and comes with motors for about $110.00.

Hi, I have just received my new kit of the 1/25 "Yamato". What did you use for glue-(s) ? Iv`e heard Zap-A- Gap and their Odorless is not the best to use, but he didn`t say why. I have a heart condition and the fumes from some of these adhesives are not good for me, that`s why I mentioned the Odorless type. Zap has Plasti-Zap that I have used when it first came out, but a year later small parts came of my ship if a fly landed on them. I`m barely kidding on this statement. Yes, I used soap and water to wash all the parts and lightly sanded the major parts. Do you know what type of plastic Doyusha uses for this kit? Thank you, Skip

Hi, Skip
The best thing I have found is the regular modelers glue in the orange tubes like at wal-mart of freddys, there is another next to it but i have never tried it, it may be odorless? I think it is in a blue tube? if it doesn't basically have the "melting action" it most likely won't work as well as what we like. I said melting because i have used it (orange tube) on some small parts and put to much glue on them and realized it a few latter and the part started to bend and twist as I tried to remove it, but i fixed it and filed the part after dried and looked great, actual better with paint of course.
Good luck Skip

Skip,
The regular liquid weld type cement like Plastruct sells does not have any odor that I can detect. Try some and see if it works for you. I don't know how sensitive yopu are to the stuff so I can't just say exactly if it will work but I would see no problem in using it. You simply put the peices together and dab a little on, it will seep in by capalliary action. It bonds by fusion. Like Jake Elwood said " This is Marine Epoxy......strong stuff " Model airplane glue like Tony talked about in the last write in does have a specific odor...ask any huffer that sniffs the stuff.
Best regards,
Pete

RE: 1/250 Huge Japanese Navy Battleship " Yamato"
Hi Guys, and Modulators too, I finally found out what type of plastic is used by Doyusha for their Battleship Yamato. It is Polystyrene. I had two Mold - Makers test scrap pieces, and they said it was definately Polystyrene. They both also stated that this type of plastic is used in most models, BUT not all. Having parts fall of after a year, just because I didn`t know what plastic it was made with, on an RC boat that was used twice a week when I feeling good, is not fun. If anyone has upper respiratory problems may want to check this Website: www.towerhobbies.com glues, Testors, there is even a couple of Non-Toxic glues! I think a Post on this subject when I find out more on how these glues effect me, might be in order here. Please let me know if you think it would be worth while. Time for me is precious, and I don`t want to waste it. Last month my Cardiologist said; "if you make it through the week you most likely will live a bit longer", but no times or dates were mentioned. Only a few days ago what he said finally "sunk in" to my wife and I. News like this sobers you up might fast My Friends. If I can`t do this Post, would someone be willing to do it, for me, because I feel it might help others on this subject ? It just might save someone a lot of grief. Did anyone notice the Capitol Letter of My Friends? That was meant with great sincerity!! I won`t embarress anyone by mentioning any names, for you can go back and read who you are. I wish I could meet you all, and THANK YOU in person. You boating people really are something, going the "extra mile" to help others!!! Hooray for you all !!! Skip & Cookie

Hi Deathwish, I really haven`t surrendered on building the Sterling Missouri, it`s just on the back burner till I get the plans. This Battleship, Yamato, has the thickest plastic Iv`e ever seen in an all plastic model, but nothing fits anywheres near close, I find that disappointing, and it is not true to scale either, but 20` away it will be fine. Hey Umi, that's not the cruiser USS Portland is it?

The thread is about huge Battleship Yamato models....
I posted images of Japanese model... I don't think it is a model of a US ship...
Here is an image of a smaller model of the same ship in Kure, Japan....You can't walk on board this one though... it's only 1/10th scale.

Hi Evan, What is the length of your Arizona and is it wood or plastic? I`m adding work in progress photos of my plastic Doyusha 1:250 (41" long) for one photo is worth a thousand words they say. Be sure to click on Gallery in the bottom left corner for more photos. Skip

You are right about the plastic being very very thick.. a long range BB gun fight would be kinda pointless with this ship, they would bounce off the hide of this ship with no problem. :-)

RE: 1/250 Huge Japanese Navy Battleship " Yamato"
Hi Mark, as you can tell by the photos Iv`e converted this, and all my ships to this set-up; a single screw with a 05 can Mabushi and a 1 1/4" Dumas "speed" prop. She had her maiden voyage Saturday Sept. 3rd `05. 6 volt gell cell @ 3 lb. witch has to sit perfectly, naturally, or she will list. Speed was just a bit more than scale in my opinion. I`ll be playing around with different motors as I always do, but so far Iv`e always went back to the 540 stock 27 turn cans. This is the largest and heaviest ship Iv`e used with this running gear set-up. She sits about 1/4" below the waterline. I put a Trinity Green machine 05 stock, in my Lindberg 34" PT and if it had a wing on it, the sucker would have flown! I also increased the rudder size, as I do with all my ships, along with the maximum throw I can get, so she will turn to my liking. I do admit this Doyusa model handles very well when you want to fool around with it, stays pretty flat in the water at full throttle while doing a 360 in just about her own length taking on no water. Thank you all for recommending this model, she is a "keeper" Skip
