Wild Goose
Does anyone know where one could find the plans for the original minesweeper John Wayne had converted into his private yacht? My mother is/was a huge fan and, we used to have a sailboat, docked about 1/4 mile from the Newport Beach home of The Duke. I think we saw him once - on the Wild Goose, and heard his unmistakable voice over the water - 4rth of July - he was telling someone (a child?) not to light fireworks so close...Anyway I was thinking of making a scale model, giving it to mom. (everyone else in the family has R/C toys; boats, cars, airplanes - thought I'd make it personal.) Did I mention? My grandfather also had a boat called Wild Goose...Before The Duke started acting, Gramps made a skiff for duck hunting - named it the Wild Goose - written upside down at the bow, as the boat was upside down on land when the name was applied. Yep that was Grandpa, brilliant one minute, and an utter dip the next. Anyway, anybody got plans??? Sean

If you know what class of boat, or the boat number it might make it easier to spot.
Check the listings on http://floatingdrydock.com/

The fact that she served in the Canadian Navy in World War II may cause some difficulties in Identifying her, but if she had sister ships in the US you could get lucky.
The description of the Wild Goose seems consistent that it is 136' in length.
The Motor & Coastal Minesweepers (AMS / MSC-1 thru 59) Seem to fit the description.
Most of the class was named after birds.
The Bobolink (MHC 44)
(ex-AMS-2) (ex-YMS-164) looks like a close match. It has the step at the bow, and the large stack a midship. And it fits the 136 foot length

RE: Wild Goose
Thanks Umi! That is probably the correct class. I do know that the Duke had the boat modified (so he did not hit his head on the ceilings) so I would probably need to do a photo survey (maybe just go down and look at it? - only 12 mi away!) to match the mods. Thanks agian! Sean
