Rich enough about how you are going to make em- get on it!

What do you think of this addition I was working on when you rang?

Bill
Hey Bill,

I like the addition!!! I think this will keep some of the water out when she is full ahead in rough seas!!

I agree, I will get on it!!! I think this will be a good week to push some midnight build sessions..

Per our conversation about launch dollies for our boats, check out this one....

Rich with that launcher you would have to tow it like a trailer behind the Toy ota. Looks like they used a baby carriage springs and allMaybe I should just get my SIL in Poughkeepsie to give his extra 10' box trailer.

That thing is HUGE... I thought you would get a kick out of that..

The ship is actually a similar size to my Matsonia..

Rich the photo yesterday was when I was seeing how it would work. Here it is after I went ahead with it. I made more sections so the section over the door would be separate as it was on Big D.

Rich and I happened to be talking about the side weather curtains on Dauntless and when I saw the photos of them rolled upI decided to add them. I cut sections out of sheet protectors, rolled them, and used ties to hold them. It never ends!!

Very nice Bill!!!!

Hi captains,
She’s back!
Here is an update..
Last night I continued on the chairs. I drew & cut out (4) ‘L’ brackets to make up the sides of the seats. I wanted to solder them but couldn’t find my solder (always happens when I really need something) so instead of stopping I substituted with metal epoxy.
While the epoxy cured I went ahead and tackled the floor because it is going to play a big part with the seating. These seats will also be used to lift the floor off the boat so I will have engine room access.
After putting together the new removable floor measurements I went ahead and removed the metal plate under the floor, removed the magnetic locking mechanism and began cutting. It took a while to do with a hobby saw but I was finally able to cut the floor into three pieces. The two pieces closest to the helm and the aft seating will be permanently epoxied in place whereas the center piece will become the removable floor. This floor was a bear to cut..

Did a basic Google SketchUp tutorial, and thought I'd draw a quick Dauntless pantry for some practice. If my measurement conversions are correct from the S&S plans, you've probably had to duck to get in there .

Yess...yerrr right...Herc used to bang his head in there when I originally set it up because the ceiling sloped downward. I since changed the floor to be lower since I put the ceiling in but haven't put Herc in there since...I should give it another try...now i'm curious..

Deep Sky - Harbor Models (dot com) is pretty much the place to go for the best quality scale boat lights for the Dauntless. Look for the plastic white ones with part numbers starting with 'ROB'. They offer several combinations so it's up to you, but obviously you'll want the port and starboard nav lights at least. These are what Rich discovered you can easily trim down to closely match the actual Dauntless nav lights. In my opinion the Fresnel lenses in these little things are amazingly clear and precisely made, like no others I've ever used.

The site has many others to choose from as well, whatever suits your taste. Also browse their other categories, you can load up on all sorts of details at this site for detailing your yacht.

By the way can you post some pictures of your progress on your Dauntless? I'm sure we'd all really like to see how it's going !!

If you were anywhere close to 6 foot tall, you probably had to duck any time you were inside the main salon anyway

If I remember correctly the video on YouTube of Big D on the beach mentions the lack of headroom throughout her.

I believe the headroom in Dauntless was around 6'-3" to 6'-5". Then there were the ceiling beams which were used for grabbing while underway which made the ceilings even lower in those areas.

Ran the video and starting at about 9:20 he talks about the headroom and says," All the rooms are really low not even 6'. I have to bend over to get in." Don't know if he was referring to the entryway or actual ceilings.

Click on the post reply tab below the bottom left corner of the last post. When the box opens, you will see two options at the bottom, below the text box. Either one of these can be used to take a picture and add it to the text in your reply

Hydro beat me to it but here's what I typed up:

To post pictures

Click the "Post Reply" button (at left under the latest post). It will take you to a reply page.

On the reply page, under the text field, find "Click here to upload images and files!".

A small window will open saying "Select a file to upload:". Click one of the "Choose File" buttons and navigate to your image file.

Highlight the file name and click "Open". It should now be listed in the upload window. Still in te small window scroll down just a little and press the "OK" button.

Done!

Raise the bridge or lower the river?? I've known for some time that the cockpit floor on my boat was to low. I know Rich and DFraised it by laying cats or spacers and putting a new floor in. I decided to lower the river and made a cut 3/8 up on all the sides and fore and aft, with a rotary blade in my Dremel, thereby separating the old floor. I have primed a new floor which I will be installing and painting. The things we find to do on a rainy day!!

Rich I guess you are in competition with Rosenfeld. I made prints of some of the photos you took and showed then to the owners of the hobby shops I deal with in Norwalk and Danbury. Both of them asked if they could keep a few!
