Looking forward to seeing the rest of the crew Rich!

DS the aft deck looks great. You are very skilled at creating a high gloss finish!

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless

    Hi captains,

It's been a while since I posted some pics here so here are some. May I introduce the man with the plan...'the owner' with a few of his friends getting comfy and lounging.

On the business end the astroflight motors are in place with the painted motor mounts and some engineroom detail.

Finally the owners cabin floors was painted grey. Some more work needs to be done here. I am going to rework the door hinges so that I can lower the wall structures some.

    Looking god deepsky!!

I'm still pondering if I am going to put a large fish box or a formal seat along port side of the back wall. I'm starting to like the idea of having the back cockpit look like the ultimate fishing station but there's time to decide. Having it look formal is also very tempting too.

How about build both and make it where you can swap one out for the other, as you see fit for the day?

That's not a bad idea either.

Last night one more lovely lady came and joined the party..And I won the engineer as well. Some of his other duties include deckhand duties and cooking.

His outfit and even his gloves will also be painted all white. I am looking to pick up a few more of these figures to use around the boat. I was once in touch with two gentleman, one named Oliver and the other Jim who used to work aboard the big 'D' as needed. It was the captain that would arrange for them to work aboard the boat for times when more crew were needed. This happened when entertaining would happen aboard the boat.

The other two GI Joes that were used in the past will become C.I.A. agents stationed around the boat which was not uncommon. Thier outfits will be painted to reflect that.

Rich - I was looking forward to running mine last weekend. But, unlucky for me, it rained all day Saturday. So that evening I was going to knock out a few 15-minute projects on the boat, but was preoccupied after experiencing my first earthquake[X(] (3.4 magnitude). I thought for sure a car had crashed into my house or something. Bizarre!

This weekend's forecast calls for highs in the 50's. I'm cold-natured, so maybe I'll be able to get out to the park and let Dauntless swim a few laps around the pond.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! DF gets rain and a 3.4 groundshaker. Up here in the Seattle area, we've officially had .03" of rain since the beginning of July and our last quake was around a 7.5 that did some serious damage to some of the older buildings in the Puget Sound Basin. Unfortunately, my yard is showing the effects of no rain as well[X(]

    The answer here is NO!!

Hey Deepsky make sure you bid on matching motors because Graupner makes several variations of the same motor that are in fact diferent. Be sure to pay close attention to the name of themodelas stated above such as Turbo, BB Turbo & Race.

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless

I got out on my lunch break yesterday for about 45 minutes of run time at a nearby pond. It was a blast and she ran like a champ. This was only the second time to run the boat since redoing the drivetrain etc over the last year or so.

First thing I noticed was that the water-cooling is fully functional at about 75% throttle and up. There's a visible stream coming out of both exits. I had thought maybe they weren't working before so this was a welcome surprise. Also the boat has a nice growl to it with these motors, almost sounds like a gas engine at full speed.

After a few laps, I could see the boat listing slightly to one side. I figure the batteries are sliding around below deck and I need to secure them better.

I left the receiver antenna wire inside the hull, bad idea. The electronics sputtered and jittered when the boat got far away. I had to keep the transmitter antenna vertical or would lose signal. I really need to upgrade from my old AM stick radio someday.

After the run, I checked the motors and they were literally cool to the touch. But the speed control was rather hot. It really needs to be replaced with a suitable PAIR of ESCs. I'm pushing my luck by still using it to push twin 700s.

Only problem with all these upgrades is $$$$[&:].

    Deep,

Your motor is the second one on the list from Graupner, it matches from the photo in the eBay sales listing photo of the box.  You'll have to save a search for another "Graupner Speed 700 BB 3307". Check it out, look at your box.

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless

Found a figure Rich might want to pick up if he's gonna go with the fishing theme in back, a child showing off his fishing catch for the day. No idea if Rockefeller even let kids aboard his boat or not...?

Also as Rich mentioned this last year - the battery operated LED Christmas lights are out again. And this year they've become incredibly tiny, durable and bright. Found a 36-bulb 'warm white' set at Wally World ($7, 3xAA). the strand's wire doesn't have the typical green vinyl insulation that makes the wires very thick. These have a coated single-strand copper wire that's incredibly thin and easy to bend to shape. These LEDs are wired in parallel, just cut off any extra you don't need. Bulbs are flat on back, so easy to surface mount with a dab of glue if you wanted to use them for interior or deck lights. These will be fun to play around with. I'll probably buy a few sets in various colors to throw in the parts bin too.
